Hi guys I have a dilema.

I have a host PC with ADSL connection which runs on "Windows XP" Im trying to connect this to a Laptop using a Wireless LAN card but this is running "Windows '98".

I know my Wireless LAN connection is working fine cos i set it up with a laptop running XP and no probs there. Could it be that the host PC running XP cant connect with the Laptop running '98 in terms of WEP keys and security etc.

Basically would I have to upgrade the Laptop OS to Windows XP?

Virtually all Wi-Fi adapters require Windows 98 SE or higher. So if you are trying to install a Wi-Fi adapter to your Win98 laptop, you will have to upgrade the OS.

Well, as this is a moblie phone forum, I can see how your topic fits, but anyway.

Windows 98? Is that still around? To take advantage of the new security services in wifi, WEP, large number keys, etc... you will need a more "robust" operation system. Without starting a war, if you have the option to upgrade your hardware as well, you might want to look at Mac. It has the most robust and secure OS on the planet, and do not be fooled by those who claim compatibility issues. I have a Mac and EVERYTHING my old Windows PC could do, my Mac does it faster and better, minus the constant reboot, crashes and oh so plenty viruses and security updates.

Either way, upgrade. Also, and this is a biggie Windows XP now uses this "Zero Configuration" utility. Disable it and use the configurator that comes with your card. The Windoze version is nothing short of aweful.
