Proof You Can Buy Anything On the Web: Drum Set on a Wrist Watch

Someone is selling on eBay a "Frequency" watch, which is a tiny drum machine built into a wristwatch and sold by Seiko during the 1990s.

'Saddam's left leg' sale falls through!

The sale of part of a now legendary statue of Saddam Hussein has fallen through because of technical problems, a German Internet auction website said.

What is purportedly the left leg of the bronze statue, which was toppled by US troops in April last year shortly after they entered Baghdad, attracted a top bid of 9,800 euros (12,600 dollars) on the Azubo.de website.

But the company running the site said it believed there had been higher bids for the item which could not be registered because of a glitch in the system. Bidding closed on Tuesday and the item was no longer on the website.

The bidder who offered to pay 9,800 euros was a 22-year-old man from the German city of Bochum who wanted to buy the statue as a present for his father, the company said.

Investigators are trying to establish whether the "piece of world history," as it is dubbed on the site, is genuine and whether it had customs clearance to leave Iraq (news - web sites).

The site claims the leg was sold by British troops to a scrap metal dealer in the western German state of Lower Saxony who sold it on to its current owner, identified on the website only by the pseudonym Paul9111.

The bronze statue was pulled down by a US armoured car as a small crowd of Iraqis cheered and the world's media recorded the event.
