New SE P series must look different! |

If SE are going to make a successor to the P910i (and i'm sure they will) i hope that they will opt for a different look over their current line of P series phones, as much as i love 'em, the design is beginning to get too familiar, with the hot new Motorola MPX just around the corner i think SE should think up a new design to counteract the multi-hinged Moto marvel. maybe they could design a PC tablet style P series device that would not only protected the full lengh of the touchscreen when closed but they could also give it a full lengh keyboard (better that the useless P910i one) that can be used in widescreen mode and flipped 180 degrees to the back off the device for that must have no keys look, anyone else got any good ideas?

I thought you were only interested in the MPx220, not the MPX!!! I do concur with your sentiments, but SE need to be careful that the price of the new updated Pxxx does not put off any potential or current customers.

Hmm im not too sure about that one. All these slidey, twisty, turny phones are gimmicky fashion accessories, the px is for serious business users, can you see the average business man being bothered with fancy twisty stuff? I think it would drive their target market away, serious people want serious phones.

@meths
Agreed, I would have thought most business users would prefer a 'simple' looking device.

I saw the MPX a couple of months ago and I have to admit, despite being about as anti-Motorola as is humanly possible, I was mighty impressed. Make no mistake, this will be a serious contender, along with the new Nokia 9x00's, for the Smartphone number one spot. And, despite the way it sounds, that dual-hinge (and the way the screen shifts depending on whether you open horizontally or vertically) actually really do enhance the functionality, and keep the size down (a crucial factor). That, plus the fact that it's running PocketPC, and has a transflash expansion slot (miniscule memory) will make it a winner in my humble, heavily biased opinion.

my sentiments exactly. in choosing a P-series phone, i am more interested in the business/internet/connectivity functions and don't give a hoot about megapix cams or gaming capabilities. and i don't want to pull out some gimmicky adolescent-looking device during a business meeting either. |

@senninha
What if it had multi-player games and all your colleagues at the meeting had one too?
Business users do tend to prefer something a little more understated, hopefully the next P series smartphone will deliver in that respect. Of course there is nothing wrong with innovation, but as meths commented, they could be in danger of putting off many customers with designs and features that just aren't appealing to certain, important, markets.
