I was recently browsing the forum, and ran across "My Friends" references. I'd remembered reading about this, and how I didn't have it on my phone (K700i R2L HK), so I wanted to figure out why.

After making sure it wasn't operator specific (used different SIM cards in different countries), I recalled that when I first bought my T39m, they had shipped me a T39mc and it didn't have T9 input. Apparently the inclusion of the Chinese language consumed too much space and they had to omit T9. So I started wondering if the "My Friends" omission could be related to my Hong Kong language pack. Working on a hunch, I pulled up both the K700i and K700c manuals from the SE site, and compared their Menus. Below are the results, where Red circles denote ADDITIONAL menu items, and Blue circles denote DIFFERENT (spelling, wording) menu items.

[Since esato shrinks that image, I put the full-size images online as a PNG file and as a GIF file.]

As you can see, the K700i manual lists "My Friends" and the K700c manual does not. In addition, my K700i menu corresponds precisely to the K700c image, not the K700i image . I have the "Settings for Java" option, the "Increasing ring" option, and the "New number" options. The spelling and wording is identical to the K700c manual, not the K700i manual. Even my capitalization is like the K700c manual, such that only the first word of a menu item is capitalized.

So now I have to start to wonder what's going on. Every reference to my phone's model number (manuals, sticker under battery, phone status) is K700i. But the keypad has Chinese input symbols, and the languages it has are English and Chinese, since it was bought in Hong Kong. It has a K700c menu, and lacks K700i options like "My Friends". So dear SE, could you kindly tell me what bloody phone I have, and how to get K700i options on my K700i phone?

I just called SE support and they said they can't change the firmware to the normal K700i version instead of the aforementioned K700"i" (more like K700c) HK version.

Do you guys know if a TotalServer flash update would put normal K700i firmware on the phone irrespective of what's on it now? And do you also know if you can choose R2L firmware, since R2AA is so up in the air? And once updated from TotalServer, will future updates from the SE Online Service work?
