what version/kernel is it based on??

there is a linux pda called simputer that's available here, and its really hard to get applications for that particular kernel. so they get a linux app, cross compile it with the linux pda kernel.. and then they port it to the pda hardware.

but, i really doubt if there are many 3rd party applications available for the linux handheld.

hope it helps.

@masseur,
there isn't like a universal linux verison out there for handhelds (like symbian uiq/palm os/windows mobile)...
so they use different kde's, and they use different processors as well. since linux handheld is still an emerging market, there aren't as many developers available to make softwares. its a question of demand and supply again.

i couldn't find many apps for the linux pda on sourceforge.net...

I wouldn't have a clue Although I am a developer I have nothing to do with linux.

In my post here I was just relating some info which may have been missed from the other thread which sounded useful

Tony, I guess sourceforge.net does contain a few apps but i wonder if they actually run on A780 because as @plasma said earlier that handhelds dont use a common linux KDE's lets see if mass could comeup with any new reviews

@ vineet
well i dont think the app's on sourceforge.net work on the a780 simply because the website does not mention anything about working on the a780! but i hope someone comes with something!
masseur had mentioned a few days back in this thread itself that he would try and see if he can help and find anything!
Lets hope for the best!

hehe yeh sure! i think it would a perfect phone for now! only 2 things stopping me from getting it are:
1. The lack of availibily for 3rd party apps
2. the memory size ( internal and external ). I read that it can only support upto 48mb on the external transflash memory card.
and i read it here

http://www.mobilegazette.com/motorola-a780.htm

I also just wrote an email to motorola clarifying the same, i hope they reply promptly!
