The Roamio is a disposable digital still and video camera in one complete unit. It takes 24 still pictures and 10 minutes of digital video footage. The product is a 'point and shoot' camera and recorded footage and stills are easily developed at any processing lab.
How does it work?
The Roamio is made from PET recyclable plastic, and is 175mm long and 80mm wide. Justin wanted to make the product as environmentally friendly as possible, so all components of the camera are recyclable and do not contain lead.
The camera produces 24 still pictures at 1.3 mega pixels and the video footage is VHS quality. Using the latest technology through alliances with Samsung, Omnivision and Sunplus, the camera delivers enhanced auto iris adjustment, auto white balance, flash, in-built audio recording and exposure compensation. A state of the art glass lens ensures high quality images.
The Roamio is powered by a 3 Volt battery and has 64MB of memory. Processing labs can easily access stills & video data contained in an internal soldered circuit board, via a hidden connection on the skin of the Roamio.
Current disposable single-use still cameras are an example of the market potential for the Roamio. There has been continued growth in sales of the single-use camera, and the trend within the cosumer market has been towards simplicity and disposability, with a preference for recyclable products.
Further information:
From extensive research, Justin has identified the following groups as main buyers of the Roamio:
Young families who want to record video footage, but cannot afford the cost of a conventional digital camera.
People who already own high end video and digital cameras who do not want to lend their expensive equipment to their children.
People who do not want to take their video cameras away on holidays with them for fear of loss or damage.

If you're a resident of that big island on the other side of the planet, you'll be able to try out the Roamio disposable videocamera for yourself, as they're now reported to be available at online retailer Extrafilm Australia. The cameras will set you back $50AU, after which you'll be able to record 10 minutes of 'VHS quality' video with sound and take 24 '6 x 4 inch quality' pictures. Return it to Extrafilm for processing and you'll receive a DVD with your video and pictures shortly.
I question the viability of this model when you can purchase a low-quality digital camera for about twice the price of renting a Roamio, but the company hopes to market the device to those who don't want to risk losing their expensive cameras or may not have a computer to do post-processing of digital snaps on.

If you're not a frequent Digital Camera user and only need to pick one up to take some snaps then there's a perfectly viable market for it really.
Someone just hits your car, you don't have a camera, but theres a store near. Purchase a disposable digital, take photos, get 2 dvd's and provide one to the scum that just hit your car.
I guess its the same thing with film cameras Vs disposable. I own a film (And a digital slr) but I rarely took the film camera out, mainly due to forgetfulness. Picked up a couple of disposables on some trips and used those instead.
I'll bet people questioned the need for disposable film cameras too.
