KDDI has announced four new CDMA 1X WIN handsets for winter - the Casio W21CA, the Toshiba W21T, the Sanyo W22SA and the Hitachi W22H. The new handsets all have stereo twin speakers, megapixel-class cameras and enhanced support for music downloads and movie playblack. The marketing boffins have also obviously been hard at work dreaming up names for the new handset colours which include "Breeze Green", "Sunrise Yellow", "Buffy White" and, best of all, "Evil Brown"!!

KDDI and Okinawa Cellular will begin sales of four new CDMA 1X WIN handsets from late November - the Casio W21CA, the Toshiba W21T, the Sanyo W22SA and the Hitachi W22H.

The new handsets will all support music downloads from the EZ "Chaku Uta Full" music delivery service and QVGA-size EZ Movies, and, have stereo twin speakers and megapixel-class cameras. The handsets will also come packaged with stereo earphones. With the exception of the W22SA, which does not use a pin jack connector, users will be able to connect earphones of their choice to the handsets.

W21CA

The W21CA is a CDMA 1X Win handset from Casio with the ability to view almost any website via the included "PC Site Viewer" software. The handset has "Wide View Style" functionality (i.e. a 2-axis hinge) and comes installed with a 2.6" 240x400 wide QVGA LCD display. The 2-megapixel CCD camera has auto-focus and focus-lock functions. A miniSD card slot is also provided for increased storage.

Maximum talk time is approximately 190 minutes and maximum standby time is 220 hours. The handset is 51 x 102 x 26 mm (WxHxD) in size and weighs approximately 125 grams. Available body colours are "Genesis Silver" and "Evil Brown". The W21CA will go on sale from late December.

W21T

The W21T is a CDMA 1X WIN handset from Toshiba that has features including Bluetooth, game application support and TV out. In addition to the previously-supported handsfree functionality, actions such as image data exchange can now be conducted via Bluetooth. A "Morphing Appli" is also included that allows 2 images to be combined into a moving image.

The main display is a 2.4" QVGA LCD while the sub-display is a 112x112 1.1" LCD. A 1.3 megapixel camera is also installed.

Maximum talk time is approximately 240 minutes and maximum standby time is 300 hours. The handset is 50 x 99 x 26 mm (WxHxD) in size and weighs approximately 126 grams. Available body colours are "Breeze Green", "Lightning Silver" and "Sunrise Yellow". Sales of the W21T begin in late November.

W22SA

The W22SA is a CDMA 1X WIN handset from Sanyo that comes equipped with an FM radio tuner and text reader functonality. It has a large 40MB data folder and no external memory slot. Other functions include IR communication and and EPG (electronic program guide).

The main display is a 2.2" QVGA LCD and the sub-display is a 120x160 1.5" QQVGA LCD. An auto-focus 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera is installed. If an image of English word is taken with the camera, an OCR English dictionary function will provide the user with the meaning of the word.

Maximum talk time is approximately 230 minutes and maximum standby time is 260 hours. The handset is 48 x 99 x 25 mm (WxHxD) in size and weighs approximately 114 grams. Available body colours are "Pigment Blue", "Buffy White" and "Poppy Yellow". The W22SA will go on sale from late November.

W22H

The W22H, the first slide-style au phone, is a CDMA 1X WIN handset from Hitachi. When a call is received, a "Luminous Slit" function softly illuminates the slider opening.

The handset is equipped with a 1.24 megapixel CCD camera and can playback ASF-format movie files stored on a miniSD card. The display is a 2.4" QVGA LCD.

Maximum talk time is approximately 190 minutes and maximum standby time is 220 hours. The handset is 51 x 115 x 27 mm (WxHxD) in size and weighs approximately 142 grams. Two body colours are available -"Vintage Red" and "Premium Silver". The W22H will go on sale from late November.

W21CA for AU KDDI's CDMA EVDO network in jp. 2MP CCD camera with Autofocus and a full html browser built in.
