Sorry if this has been mentioned before guys but i am reall curious how none of the major phone manufacturing companies have yet to present a "mp3-phone" opposed to camera phones.
Yes, i agree that camera-phones are the trend at the moment but i am sure that there is a huge market that would prefer a phone with 20gb, a good mp3 player, and ability to download songs through operators.
Judging from the runaway success of the IPOD, which isnt that bigger than a small to medium sized candybar phone, i would have expected some company to come up with an ipod+phone combo. On the other hand ou could say that mmc and msduo pro cards now reach 1gb so wh equip a phone with 20gb on board, yet i believe that at 350-400 euro, a phone with 65k tft screen (for music video clips?), gprs, 20gb, mp3 and radio, would be a great success story!

20GB, I assume you mean a hard drive then, well that sure would suck a hell of alot of power, but I was told that, in Japan the first lot of Smartphones with HDs will be coming out later this year.

Thinking about it, a phone with a 20gb .mp3 facility would have quite a market, I'm sure.

The thing is nokia has had a shot at the mobile phone + music combo, with those awfully designed phones a few years ago (cant remember the model no.). However a candybar, sleek model with big har drive would sell alot imho.
Yes i read about the samsung phone in japan, and surely we will see hard drive phones appearing in europe in 2005 (cebit anone?). I just get the feeling that witha all this "phone-meets camera" campaign that SE has launched for its new models, it may give the music market a shot as well some time. |

You're kidding right? The iPod gives you a max of what? 8 hours? People are bitching about the P-series phones only lasting 20-30 hours... and you think a phone that lasts 8 hours will be something people will buy?
Yes, I do agree that a better MULTIMEDIA phone will sell. Higher storage capacities, better A/V capabilities, etc... but until they solve the battery, weight, and size issues that would come with them... I don't think phone manufacturers should even attempt to sell us another clunker.
Oh, and a micro HDD on a mobile phone... hmmm... considering the other thread where people can't seem to stop dropping their mobile phones... I don't think a HDD would be the greatest idea.
Right now, solid state technology is getting cheaper (thank GOD!) and increasing in capacity.
As much as I'd like to have 20GB on my phone... really thinking about it... it's not such a good idea if it will come at a power drain cost. I mean, what good is a phone if it can't do what it was PRIMARILY DESIGNED to do... keep in touch.
Besides, a smartphone & an iPod make a much better solution... for now. There's no way they can make a phone with an interface as sleek as an iPod simply because a phone has much more capabilities... and second, at least if I listen to music the whole day, and my music player's batteries die... I'm not stuck dead in the water without a means of communication... and no, I'm not the type to lug around a wall charger.

why wish for only 20GB? why not 40? or 80GB?
A much larger screen... wifi... better keyboard... full video and mp3 capabilities...
if size and battery life aren't an issue to those who wish for these... I have a solution...
it's called a laptop! hehehehe
plug in a GSM/EDGE card, get a Bluetooth headset... and you're good to go! ... oh, don't forget your wall adapter as well.

I think it's actually supposed to be 12hours. And thats from constant play.
You wouldn't leave your phone playing MP3s for 12 hours and listen to it constantly
It'd be interesting to see how long an ipod battery would power a Px00 for
