i think they are and i'm kind of worried about it. i dont want to buy a phone with 65k if all the phone companies are having 262k as their standard screens. i mean its just like now nobody would really want to buy phones with 4096 screens because they're kinda out dated. not only that but if 262k screens become standard then we can look forward to a rise in price for our mobiles what are your opinions? i don't think they will become standard yet, as there as still phones being released with less than 65k colours. Also the more 262k screens released the cheaper they will become, it will also push down the price of phones with 65k screens. I am happy enough with the colours on the k700, pictures almost look as good as on the pc.
I think higher resolution will be better and more important in giving a clearer image than a higher colour count.

The differences between 64 and 256 colorscreens are marginal. A big problem is a colourscreen and sunshine: thevisibility is poorer than inside or bw .

I think its just a path of evolution ,now 262k is the best , next year it will be something better and will eventually replace the older ones . And There are only a few things i like about samsungs , first among them is screen , look at the screen of d410 , i feel its the best .

I don't see much difference between a 65k and a 262k screen. People do see the difference between a good quality screen and a bad. And then if you have 2 good quality screens (like 2" or more and high res) you only might notice the difference when viewing pictures taken from a camera, since only the camera will use 262k colours or even 16.7m colours. But haveing a 1.3mp or a 2mp camera, you are not viewing your pix on a 2" screen, but on the pc, where you can see the true quality of the pictures. As for java and other applications, they use around 4000 colours at best and viewing a film on the cellphone? With the current best compression you even have way less than 65k colours.
Everything was ugly, but your beautiful face.

Eventually the 65k screen will be replaced but not yet. Nokia is still making camera phones with 4096 colors. 65k screen will stay for quite some more time before it will be phased off. They did increase the screen resolution and battery life before making 262k standard.

Its the resolution that matters. A 65k screen with a higher resolution might look better than a 262k screen with lower res. Am i right?

@whiz:
A 65k screen with a higher resolution might look better than a 262k screen with lower resolution but the pictures will look more clear and vivid on a 262k screen even if the resolution is less

Standard ?What is a "standard" - most used/accepted.Well then surely Nokia's (dare I say in here) 208x176 65k may be seen as one.Is not to big(9xx series) not to small and certailly wildely accepted.Because of relative compact size and "not to many colors" is easy on the battery!(look at the small batt. Of the 6600) and yes it won't be the 1 time they are "making" a screen standard! Who remembers the 5110 picture messeging "standard"? It took the world by storm and yet when first released seemed so inimportant. . .

but, the batteries should be able to handle the power load of 262k screens... that is also another major issue here.

But doesnt the 262k need a large screen size? This should increase the overall size of the phones right? Jus look at all the people complaining about the s700 size!!!
