Do-it-yourself home security gurus will likely be frothing at the mouth when they hear about Sanyo's new "Hovica" series of webcams. Though Sony had a similar announcement earlier in the week, but the "Hovica" series offers features far beyond those of the Sony, and even at a cheaper price.
On the Hovica, you of course get various sensors and timers that will alert you (by cell phone) when something at your house goes wrong - but the innovation in this camera lies in Sanyo's inclusion of an infrared remote control function. In Japan, this means you could turn on your air conditioner, lights, TV, or blender. Other security-related features include an LED light that can illuminate about 2 meters in front of the camera, and a buzzer. Because buzzers always scare thieves away.
As with most new webcams released in Japan, Sanyo will also be offering a fixed IP service called "Hovinet" in conjunction with the camera's release. Paying about $8 USD per month will allow you to access and control your camera from either PC or cell phone.

This product is priced at 65,100 yen (about 600 US dollars) with wireless LAN card. The camera shoots 5 still images on trigger by the motion sensor, and sends these images to a service server operated by Sanyo, while notifying users by e-mail. The user can check the images by accessing URL specified in the mail. The camera also has infrared remote control function, for controlling home air conditioners and lightings from outside.
