Hello,

I always get the error message "Fatal Error" if I try to run the online update service on the sony ericsson website. I get this error using Internet Explorer and Firefox. I tried to reinstall Java and the syncstation driver. I tried it with and without recharge-cable plugged in syncstation.
My configuration:
Windows XP SP2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
Sony Ericsson DSS-25 (driver from SE website)
Sony Ericsson K700i

I've read about this before on esato (might try a search)
But the solution then was to uninstall J2S and use the microsoft java manager. (This is the standard java environment installed with Internet Explorer)

Hope this helps,

Well, Microsoft Virtual Machine was removed from their website, they point all links to sun, because MS has a contract with them.

Have you tries IE's install on demand?
Uninstall J2SE and then head over to a site that requires java. IE should automatically download and install it (just check in your browser settings that install on demand is activated).

I know this won't help everyone but I had the same problem a few days ago but I'd installed the wrong driver (or windows did)

As the first post said
make sure you have Sony Ericsson driver from SE website

Desk Synchronisation Stand DSS-25
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]3_2&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10161

or any others
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]e=pp4_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4&cid=113

....also make sure firewalls are turned of and that you download the right java VM

I have this drivers: http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10101&fid=6292

and this now this Java:
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

and this results:

Quoting from another post:
"I always got a FATAL ERROR when updating after:

"Preparations completed
Application starting...

The application will soon open in a separate window."

I don't have any Firewall enable, my phone is 89% of battery, I have downloaded the drivers showed in the installation guide (P900 drivers and scripts?!) and I have Win XP Pro SP2. My actual firmware version of my K700i is: R2A041 prgCXC125897_EU_2_C (Vodafone branded).

What is wrong? "

I think it has to do with the "Vodafone branded" thingy.

Update service only works with unbranded phones.

As someone i know would say:
Unless i'm very much mistaken. [addsig]

Try on a comp with sp1, as sp2 appears to be very buggy.

You don't have to put your phone into your sync station before that update window appears, so it has nothing to do with uncharged or branded phones.

I installed the driver and Java from your urls, still same error message

Sony Ericsson gave me a list of steps what you can do if you get that error, but it didn't work for me. Maybe for someone of you (in German unfortunately):

1. PC: Zugangssoftware downloaden . Weiter mit "Continue without ...". 12. Nochmals weiter mit "Continue without ...". 13. 17. 19. Das K700i startet sich anschliessend selbsttätig.
