Problem with HBM-30 (and I've read the guide) |

Hi all,
I just got my HBM-30, and I don't know whether to love the little thing or jump up and down on it in frustration...
I read the guide, bought a proper Sony US10 memory stick writer, wrote my atrac3 66kbps files onto the stick, and the battery lasted about 2 hours.
I popped in a newly charged 800mha rechargable, turned on, and the unit displayed the initial "read atrac3" text, then promptly turned off with a very loud short burst of static through the headphones - nice.
Any other battery I tried it did the same. I found a brand new sony battery, popped the memory stick out then back in, and it started up fine. The weird thing is, I tried one of the batteries that previously failed and it was ok now!
Has anyone else got stuck trying to turn it on with it turning off with a loud burst of random noise?
I'm really not impressed - I've gone the extra mile to get atrac3 files on it to hopefully improve the life of it and more often than not I can't even turn it on never mind have it play for more than an hour!
Please help!
Cheers

hi having followed the guide myself I can say that my battery problems are gone I am using sony rechargeable ni-mh batteries.
the one problem with the hbm-30 is that it seems to use alot of power when turned on as it reads files but it could sound like you have a faulty unit

Yeah I phoned Sony Ericsson and they advised that I send it back for replacement where I bought it...
Seems I'm not destined to have this - first one was "lost" in post (thanks Royal Mail!) even though it was a signed-for special delivery item...

Still waiting for confirmation from the company that they have sent out a replacement (I know from tracing it online they signed for the one returned on the 29th).
Typical for something I originally ordered on the 8th Sept...
Cheers

got mine working at last. im VERY annoyed though. it has no USB or power connection, & isnt rechargeable like sony MD players. oooops!!
so your meant to waste half the battery just recording something, or have to buy a card reader for it. also beware buying memory stick (i tripped up here) its got to be MAGIC GATE (sony) or it will only do mp3.
it seems that it will only add track marks on ATRAC3 if there is a gap between tunes cos of the analogue input, but will if you put tracks on using card reader.
their neck strap / clip design are very poor, i would say not very secure design more for safety than theft deterrent (how many phones get stolen due to iffy belt clip or cheapo neck strap off the market??) tho' i do fear muggers more than jack-the-ripper type stranglers, so please se, take note!
i knew it'd be basic didnt think it'd be THAT basic tho'

My replacement arrived today, put the battery in and turned on and the battery meter was showing empty and flashing :-\
I think the HBM-30 is just a bit pooh, I can't believe SE would sell such a piece of crap... It's such a good idea for a product and would be genuinely useful if it wasn't for a couple of (huge) flaws.
Mind you, it has played over an hour (battery symbol flashing empty) so at least this one is working (for the time been anyway).
Still not impressed,

I got mine.... im very impress.... works fine... sounds fine.. but the down side is the batt life... 1 tip for u guys... if u wanna turn on the device... take off the memory stick n then on it... then put back in the memory stick, this way it uses less batt life.. and easier to switch on the device... |
