Hi everyone,

I have the feeling this has been posted before, but it is hard to do a search on this:

How do you enter words like can't and isn't when you are writing an SMS or post messages on WAP? I mean, of course you can use "enter symbol" etc, but there must be a way to do this so that you can do it in one keytap?

That is just so crappy that you cant enter text correctly. The SE T9 implementation sucks on so many levels compared to Nokia's: The cant thing, the slow swapping between multi tap and T9 (you have to hold down *, on Nokia you just hit # twice --- much faster), and them of course, the main thing: Nokia's T9 is much faster overall. Is there anything that is better? I appreciate the pop-up menue that you get with R2B025. Thats at least something. -jas

I guess you are right in that grammar isnt the most important thing - but it still annoys me. Wouldn't it be great if the T9 software would automatically change cant to can't etc?

Multitap should not be required for typing words like can't and isn't.

Using T9 it should be entered using predictive punctuation. At least with later T9 implementations as seen in T9 demos and newish T68i sw.

In this case the punctuation key (# on T68) is used for entering a predictive punctuation. Thus for "can't" you enter 226#8 and this will suggest "can't" as first candidate.

This means it's also possible to enter words that include punctuation into the user dictionary. These include e.g. the set of smileys. So if you enter things like ":-)" into the dictionary they can be retrieved using T9 candidates by entering a word consisting of 3 predictive punctuations ###.

The user dictionary can also hold words that includes digits and upper case characters. So e.g. CUL8R can be added and retreived entering 28587.

BTW, one of the likely reasons that entering text using the T68 appears slow is that more characters are viewed on the display. Compared to some Nokia phones even "large text" on SE views more characters than Nokia. So switching to "large" can improve speed.

@R2D2
If you look at how it should works by Tegic (the developer of T9 predictive text imput), you’re absolutely right. However that’s definitely not the case with our T68…

All the things you’ve explain in your post doesn’t work with my T68m(i)… with T9 in french…

It’s really a shame to see software engineer so incompetent by , not even able to reuse properly a software already made by someone else…
It seems that they are much better by Siemens or Nokia, because by both of them, the apostrophe in T9 mode is working fine…

And if you perform a search on this forum, you’ll find that people are asking for a properly working T9 since more than 8 month…

Yes, I upgraded to R2E006 and now it is wonderfully simple to write can't and isn't! What a joy! I certainly don't regret that I started this thread! Thanks R2D2! -Jas

Hi Jas, so can I just confirm - you can now enter words like "can't" and "isn't" in the same way you can on Nokia ? ie can.t is changed automatically to can't ?

This one one of the worst weaknesses of the T68 in my opinion and if it's fixed then that's brilliant news!
