I update my K700i online yesterday to R2L001 and I was poking around the SE Update Service directory today. I found that its software-data subdirectory has two files

HL1_125882RED29_000000_0000_R2M (8578 KB)
HL1_HONGKONGSFARED29_000000_0000_R2L (750 KB)

"R2M"?!? Weird!! So I started trying to figure out what the names mean. The "HONGKONG" is pretty straight forward, I bought my phone unlocked and unbranded in Hong Kong. The "125882" is what follows "prgCXC" if I look at my software version. I have no clue what "SFA" and "RED29" means, but "R2L" is obvious. Oh, and when I looked at the mySEUSlog.log file, I also saw this

HL1_pg_K700CDA102298/33CID29RED_f_040830_1130_2

as the script name it was looking for. K700 CDA 102298/33 is again from the Software Info screen, and the rest I have no idea. But "CID" before the 29RED might explain that too, whatever CID stands for.

Think it would be kinda cool to figure this out. What are your files called? Branded/locked? Country? etc etc. Detective work galore.

Hrmm. Nobody replied. But I found this is another thread from tors' logfile

17.29.12:210 78 Info ###### Script stopped, HL1_pg_K700CDA102298/34CID29RED_f_040827_1203_2

I'm pretty sure I now know the "040827_1203" is the date and time of firmware creation! But the rest is still a mystery. Anybody else want to contribute?

HL1_125883RED29_000000_0000_R2M (8,624KB)
HL1_TAIWANSFARED_000000_0000_R2L (751KB)

2) here's what i got from the log file that was created

HL1_pg_K700CDA102298/51CID29RED_f_040830_1642_2

i also saw these lines in the log file:

17.40.33:313 47 Exception Could not send shutdown request to flash loader homeflash.msconnector.a: Failed to get Ack for package command 20 !!!

17.43.58:317 78 Exception Exception homeflash.msconnector.a: Reply result error in waitForCommandReply(). Expected: 0 returned: 3

i don't know what this means but as of the moment my phone is ok. i was able to upgrade my phone to R2L. any of you guys also had these lines in your log files after going thru the update?

Thanks j4sp33d! Yeah, I have the same first error, but not the second one. tors has the same first error too:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=69312&start=232

Are you sure yours says HL1_TAIWANSFARED_000000_0000_R2L and not
HL1_TAIWANSFARED29_000000_0000_R2L?

Also what's your language pack, and is the phone locked or branded? Actually I've been told that the lock information is stored in a different memory segment as the firmware, so the locks shouldn't affect this. Still curious though.

Anymore contributors out there? I really want to figure out what the SFA and RED29 mean, and what the CID and /51 or /33 mean too.

Cheers

Starting with K700 SonyEricsson changed how the firmware/language packs/user data is organized in the phone. In the K700 the firmware is having only the English language built in, that's what you'll find in the first file, and that file will be the same for every updated phone. The second file contains language customizations, other than English - like the Hong Kong or Taiwan ones.

mers:

i'm sorry you're right. it's HL1_TAIWANSFARED29_000000_0000_R2L.
do you have any idea what the error lines mean? the second error line is towards the end of the log file. anyway my phone is unbranded and unlocked. i bought it in hong kong. btw did you update your phone with or without SIM card inside? i went thru the update twice with SIM inside and my phone didn't function normally. i couldn't save anything on the phone memory. the phone says "memory full" even though i still had 42MB free. i went to the service center and had it reflashed but i still have the memory problem. then i tried the online update again but this time i took out the SIM. at the end of the process an error message "error in communicating with device" was displayed. i then checked and my firmware is R2L and now my phone works perfectly. i can now save items unlike before. any explanations on this one. the online update says that if i encounter the "error in communicating with device" then i should start the update again if my phone is working but if it doesn't then i should go to the recovery mode. didn't bother trying them 'coz now my phone is fixed. weird.

@j4sp33d

I don't think the first error is important, whereas the second probably is. In the second case, the "return 3 instead of return 0" means an error code was returned, so something is wrong. In the first case, an exception is thrown because an acknowledgement isn't received. This doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong, could just be an implementation omission.

@marcel

Thanks. But if the firmware files are all the same, then the firmware files and language pack files are independent. That implies that the language pack can be changed by placing a different language pack file in the saved-data directory and hoping the Update Service will installing it without checking the phone further ...?
