O2 branded phone firmware upgraded |

Success!
I've just upgraded my firmware from R2A041 to R2L001 using my brothers' phone to help me. Previously I got the message that devices from my operator were not supported.
My brother bought his K700 from carphone warehouse on an O2 monthly contract but it was completely unbranded, the only thing O2 about it was the SIM card.
I upgraded his K700 first without a problem then started the upgrade process again and switched my phone into the cradle just before pressing the update button. The upgrade the completed without a hitch - woo hoo!
PS try this at your own risk, I accept no responsibility for your K700 becoming an attractive yet expensive paperweight.

Yeah, I suppose it was risky, but after the problems I was having with R2A I decided to just go for it.
I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive during the process, willing the progress bar to reach 100%, but it all went flawlessly.
Out of curiousity and to see if the update had "unbranded" my phone I decided to try the process again and still got the "devices from your operator are not supported" message. Oh well, hopefully O2 will support this in the future.
PS one other thing I have noticed after the update is that the font used to display the operator logo has increased in size. | |
