Worth updating K700i? |

Hi all,
I've had my K700i for about two weeks now and I've had no problems apart from the appalling battery life.
I've been reading about updating the firmware to improve this (I currently have R2A041, which, from what I've read, is pretty old).
I've attempted to take the phone back to the dealer (Phones4U) to have it done and they told me to go to a Sony Ericsson service centre, but I can't seem to find one in the Bradford/Leeds area.
Next, I tried the local Carphone Warehouse express place, but they said they couldn't deal with the K700 yet.
So, it seems to me that I have four options:
1. Leave it and see if the battery life improves with subsequent charges
2. Find a service centre nearby, should one exist
3. Push Phones4U to send my phone back for an upgrade (they did this with my T68i but were reluctant to do so this time, and it took almost a month to get it back last time)
4. Buy a DSS-25 cradle and update the firmware online myself
I would appreciate anyone's advice on my best course of action.
Thanks in advance,
Neil |

I suppose I should have asked, but will the battery life actually get any better? I get 2 days max, with moderate use. |

its really time for people to stop asking about this battery problem because this has been the hottest topic since the K700 came out and there are so many threads about it.
may I suggest to browse the excellent K700 Firmwares overview thread for a good summary of what you can expect

I'd have a go yourself, if I was you! I've just updated the firmware on my k7 to R2L online with a DSS-20 syncstation without any problems. The website guides you through the process, easy as pie! Just don't interrupt the update process halfway through, and make sure you're battery's fully charged to minimise the process going pear-shaped part way through when your phone's battery dies!

I too would suggest that one has a bash at the online update, that's the sort of spirit that made this country great. No point in crying to mother, just roll up the old shirt sleeves, prepare to mop one's brow and look forward to a damned stiff scotch as a reward. Huzzah!

i suspect the battery problem is more in certain ppl's heads than in their phones...
but aye.... go forth and update!

Cheers for the help!
I'll buy a DSS-20/25 and give the online update a go.
Cheapest I've found online is £14.95 ex delivery at http://www.blueunplugged.com/[....]Display.aspx?productKey=105541 but I'd really like to buy one in town tomorrow. Does anyone know of any UK high street retailers selling them cheaper than £29.99?
Thanks again. |

Do I really have to have that DSS 02-25 Syncstation when upgrading my fone's firmware, will a bluetooth transfer not do? Also, will I be getting same results if I upgrade my K700i online against that at authorized upgrade SE service centers? . . . Just having doubts here, my fone might go berserk after updating online! |

@JN, you should be alright mate, I did it with my DSS-20, and if I can do it without buggering my phone up, anyone can!
It's worth it!

@sammy_boy - What's the major role of that DSS 20/25 Syncstation mate? I don't have one, does tha mean that I can't upgrade firmware - R2L . . . online? I thought it's just the normal downloading thing where I can stock the firmware on my PC's hard disk then be transferred to my K700i via Bluetooth Thanks! |

@JN - I'm afraid you do need a syncstation in order to do it - it cannot be done via Bluetooth, IR, or data cable! Try borrowing a friends or something, or you can get one off ebay cheaply. It takes about 30 mins and it's all explained step by step on the website
