XTNDConnect will not work with Outlook 2003 |

I just got a used Sony Ericsson T616 - unfortunately the original owner does not remember where the Software CD went. I downloaded all the apps from the Sony Ericsson site, installed them and ... XTND Connect won't work.
Each time I try to select "Synchronize..." I get an "Invalid User" error followed by a "Error occurred while initializing synchrnoization engine. Please try again."
Calls to SE have been pointless - they keep telling me it's a problem with my outlook installation but won't go further because "outlook is not their product". I have re-installed office TWICE - with no changes - and I have managed to get the T616 to communicate via bluetooth with my laptop since I have been using floAt's Mobile Agent (which sadly cannot sync my outlook calendar)
I have a MS bluetooth keyboard connecting over serial port 1(COM Port I thought I read somewhere that XTNDCOnnect will not work with Ports higher than 4 but for the life of me I can't figure out how to assing port 4 (which IS free) to the bluetooths serial port.
At this point I have no further clues as to what to do...any help out there?
Thanks

| Yes,I think you are going good way.The problem XTND connect
is in setting up of communication port - try to change COMs.
If you have dongle try to synchro ur phone with its soft as I do.
Seems to me XTND connect is too problematic.

The good news is that I FINALLY got the silly thing working - the bad news is that Sony Ericsson Tech support SUCKS! After walking me through all the BASIC steps that are already outlined on their web site (despite me telling them several times that I had already done those steps) - they finally told me that it was either (a) outlook's problem (b) a Windows XP problem or (c) that I should go to bluetooth.org and download new drivers? Huh?
Soo... after buying a new dongle, re-installing windows xp and outlook 2003 - I still had the same problem! I un-installed the SE software, did a search in the registry for all entries that had "Extended Systems" or "XTND" in either the registry key, value or data, deleted all the entries (children - be careful when you play with the registry - lots of BAD things can happen), re-booted, re-installed the software, rebooted again and now..presto chango...in CLASSIC Windows fashion everything works fine!
Funny thing is I've been using the same phone on my Mac with a MICROSOFT dongle just fine for the past month!
Now if I could only talk my company into buying me a G4 Laptop.... |
