Is it possible for me to download this firmware of the internet and update my K700 myself or do I have to take it to a shop and get it done? I have phoned my local o2 store and Carphone Warehouse and both are lost when I ask do they 'update the firmware on the K700' And these people are supposed to know their phones!!

You and me both, mate. UK seems to know nothing ("Its a new phone and we've not had any problems yet" !!) and with Carphone Warehouse its the luck of the draw. Some of their staff know about firmware, but most don't. I'm stuck with R2A041...

The online site - http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/K700/frameset.htm appeared to only work for a few days and has been offline for a number of weeks. I'm not holding my breath...

I listed all the O2 shops and carphone warehouse stores where you can update your firmware. It was in a post called "service centers" In the advanced search, search for that title and my user name it should come up. I am on WAP so cant link it for you. Hopefully you will have a store near you. Good luck

Hy m8!
I live un Romania and I have a K700i.It was taken from Dubai, unlocked, but with R2A041 (I have no warranty)
I took the phone to one of the 3 or 4 SE service centers in my home town(Bucharest).
The first service center I went to couldn't do it . They said that they cannot syncronize the phone with SE server,so I took it to the second one. They upgraded the FW to R2L001 in about 15-20 min and they charged me 15 euros(less than 20 $US).
So,just take your k700 to a SE service center in your town, and they'll do it to it for free if its in the warranty period(if you have one) or you'll have to pay a small fee for the FW upgrade

(start of rant)

Ok. I live in the largest town in the UK, Northampton. There are no Sony Service Centres anywhere near here, and suggest I send it to Hays (or whatever they're called) to be "serviced". No way. I'm not posting it.

then suggest these are the closest "non-postal" service centres:

JAH Services, 18 Parkside Centre, Southend on Sea, SS2 5SJ, Essex, Tel: 01702 461106

Intec Cellular Services, 50 Moxon Street, Barnet, EN5 5TS, Tel: 0208 2163838

Premiere Eurocom, Unit 9, Advanced Business Units, Waterside Drive, Langley, Berkshire, SL3 6EZ, Tel: 01753 543712

By road, they're:
Northampton to Southend On Sea... 162 km
Northampton to Barnet... 95 km
Northampton to Langley... 110 km

As for Carphone Warehouse, one of their Milton Keynes branches can do firmware upgrades - assuming I can get thru to them in the first place. I've rang every day for 3 weeks and their phone is always engaged.

So please, none of this "take it to a shop and they're do it" rubbish as we don't all live in London or Birmingham or wherever else there's loads of shops that can do the upgrade.

They suggest I post mine to Carphone Warehouse in Belfast to get it done and I think they charge £30 or something!

In this case : buy a sync station and wait for the online update service to be availabe. There is no other way to do it,as far as I know!

Sorry!

PS: The funny thing here,in Romania/Bucharest,is that they dont't have the k700 in their store, but they upgrade one,if you got it!

@celtic mad, There's no way they can charge you £30 for the upgrade if you're got the original sales receipt or invoice for the phone! told me that I'm entitled to upgrades (when they're available!) for free for 12 months. Carphone Warehouse told me the same thing.

I have the exact same problem. I got my K700 on Vodafone contract. I rang up the nearest carphone warehouse and they said that the neartest one they could do it in store was Newcastle but thats miles away from me. So after many unsuccessful attempts to ring Vodafone I poped down to the nearest shop. And they didnt have a clue what I was talking about and they said that I would have to get in touch with SonyEricsson, I e mailed them twice and I have still got no helpful replys ( They told me where the nearest service center was but thats miles away). I e mailed vodafone 3 times and I got one reply saying they could not help me because of the Data Protection Act. So I dont know what to do. I was thinking of posting it away but I dont know how to go about it. Do I just put my phone in the post with a note in saying "Upgrade the Firmware". I was looking into the dock idea but I dont know when the online upgrade is going to be back online or if it is for how long :-S. I dont know where to buy the docks from and how much they are. I'm stuck as to what I should do. What do you all suggest. Thanks in advance.

It's not possible to upgrade your firmware if you got a branded version at least not to my knowledge.

EDIT: Hmm i was wrong, it is possible, but only if your provider has given a firmware update to the SESP's.

@ celtic mad. I have used the carphone warehouse in belfast many times over the years for firmware updates. They will only charge you 30 quid if the phone is out of its 12month warranty. Its free otherwise. Also, if you are travelling distance to it, all before hand to make sure the engineer is working that day or you will have to leave it overnight. I have wasted 15quid on the train journey several times, i am starting to remember to call ahead now.
