My Z600 refused to synchronise with my pc through XTND (started from outlook 2003). Allthough synchronisation worked with the winXP bluetooth software, it didn't synchronise my calender events properly.
This may work for other fones as well...... I hope.
The trick to get communications suite working comes in several steps.
1) setup your winxp bluetooth drivers (that came with the hardware).
2) Install sony ericsson communication suite (any version).
3) From your Control Panel, start Phone Monitor, select 'COM Ports' and make sure all available ports are activated. In my case, Com7, 8 and 9 had to be activated by hand. Now close your control panel.
4) Rightclick your bluetooth icon in the system tray and select 'advanced Configuration'.
5) Select 'Client Applications'. Delete any excisting com-ports (if possible).
6) Select Pim Synchronisation and click Add Com Port.
7) Select DialUp Networking and click Add Com Port.
 Make sure the port numbers match the port numbers activated in step 3.
9) Reboot your system.
In my case, this did the job for me. Outlook 2003 does a full synchronisation and even translates reoccuring events perfectly.
