Carl Zeiss has signed a contract with Dialog Semiconductor to produce high-quality cams, the first project is a modul with a picture-sensor and picture-editing-processor
it would be possible to have 10MP in the near future in mobile phone cams

i would really like to see the carl zeiss AG to co-operate with sony ericsson |

I'm looking forward to see such a phones with great camera possibilities. Maybe the time, when cameras in phone will not be just for fun and MMS is very near. Maybe next year will be 3,2Mpix in phones standard.

I think it'll take around 2 years at least. Remember in 2002 we've had 0.3MP and took around 2 yrs to get to 1MP;the price's very high at this early stage and it'll still b4a long time.

Sounds like a marriage made in heaven! Can't wait for the cam phones with 1mp and over cameras.
Quite a fan of Carl Zeiss optics too - I have an old pair of Carl Zeiss Jena 8x30 binoculars which, despite being 22 years old have excellent clarity which is better than quite a few newer pairs of binoculars.

10Mp in a phone? Why? Are you planning to print high quality, life size posters? that would be about 3MB average per picture. IMO 2Mp camera is more than enough for a good quality 4R photo.

And Carl Zeiss cooperates with Sony CyberShot also, so no wonder Snow will put its' camera lenses inside se phone.

I somehow agree with @blackspot, there is no need of having a 10mp camera attached to a phone, i think upto 3mp is enough, more resolution means increase in picture size and time taken to process a picture will also increase...but having a zeiss lens is a Brilliant idea....

To get 10 MP out of a camera phone would require a revolutinary new tecnology. We are looking at years down the line before that will be built in to a phone. A clip on solution is more likely to see the day of light much sooner than a built in solution.
What puzzeles me though is who would ever but a 10mp camera phone? The ones who uses the biggest MP cameras today are eighter proffesional photographers or dedicated hobby enthusiasts who require the best of the best. They are very expensive today and will stay expensive for a long time.
If they find a way to squash a 10MP camera in to a phone there will be pro cameras with 20 to 25 MP wich is what pros will use.
No, all this is hypothetical, for now.
My Sony Cyber Shot F-828 is a 8MP cam and it requiers a lot of memory to be able to use it to it's full. It is big to be able to hold it stable and... Well, the list goes on and on.
We are looking at 4, maybe 5MP, being put in to a phone. I doubt we'll ever see more than that. The phones will be too big as a phone and too small for a pro camera.

Phone as pro camera man?
I hope you are joking.Your Sony F828 is nothing else than a point and shoot camera.Nothing professional.
Pro digital cameras require clean pictures.Clean pictures require big sensors to reduce the noise in the image.
My Nikon D70 DLSR sensor is 1,6 crop factor and it is 1/3 as big as my P900.And it is only 6 MP.Kodak DCS Pro has no crop factor and 14 MP and the sensor is huge. The price too.
Have you seen how noisy and unclear are the pictures taken with phones? That's because the sensor is way to small and there is a lot of noise there.
No, I think even if they put more megapixels inside, the camera of the phones will be just for fun. Maybe will be able to replace the lower end P&S cameras, but nothing more than that.
P.S.:When you say pro, consider that the pro cameras have interchangable lenses. So, phones with interchangable lenses?Ha ha...I doubt it. |

...also why would Sony put a hi-quality camera in their phones? It's just not logical. It will compete and eventually kill their market for digital cameras. I believe they will put the high end technology in the digital cameras and cellphones will get the low end camera technology which is considered high-end on the phone world. That way people like us will keep wanting and waiting for the next model and people like them will keep on getting richer and richer!
