Is there a way of changing message tones or do i have to stick to the pre defined tones that se put on the phone

Unfortunately yes you're stuck with the 6 preset tones.
STILL only the P-Series has customised message tones

630 has 6? Many are stuck with just 2. Are they poly or just mono like the rest?

They're kind of good mono.
They're not really polyphonic but still make a nice sound, not horrible T68 or Mokia style 'twinkle-beeps'.
