Proper Care of Zippo Lighters? |

What's the proper way to maintain a Zippo lighter? I've had mine for about one to two months now. I'm having trouble getting it to light up. The flint is fine and produces a good spark, but I'm wondering if it's the wick. It's turning black, and when I want it to light, I have to strike the flint many many times. Should I replace the wick? I have spare wicks and flints, but I don't want to change anything if I don't need to. How do I properly keep my Zippo in tip top shape? Thanks alot! :-)

Zippo lighters aren't sealed tightly so they need to be fueled up quite often. if you don't keep the inner part of the wick full of fuel you can burn off the wick up at the top near the flint. Just go buy fuel, open the lid and pull up on the wind screen. The whole assembly should pull out of the shell. Then you should turn it over, pull up a little cloth flap and see the unwound bottom of the wick. Just squirt lots of Zippo fluid in there til its moist. |

It is fully fueled. I was afraid of getting some kind of stupid, common sense response.

sorry...
you mentioned extra flint and everything, and that your wick was turning black, but no mention of fuel. Trust me I've seen intelligent people miss the most common sense issues
try pulling the wick up a tiny bit to expose some unburnt wick
