Have you noticed, in the last couple of years, companies seem more interested in their "brand" than anything else, including quality of the product? Not just mobiles, but practically anything - even football clubs! Why does a football club need a brand, the only people interested in them are their supporters, who are buying shirts etc anyway! I feel that the brand isnt impoertant, take mobiles for example. Most people dont care what network they are on as long as they are getting a good deal, so shouldnt companies concentrate on the product rather than the image? In a lot of cases, particularly clothing, image is everything, but i find more and more people are getting annoyed with phone branding, dont they realize they are driving customers away?

Just my thoughts they probably arent right but *sigh* what do you do?

I think the issue is one product in a particular line is much like another hence advertisers need to sell you an image. Buy this over-priced piece of junk and you, too, can have the woman of your dreams, etc.

Unfortunately, the majority of people seem to care more about image than anything else. Pathetic isnt it? I think as a species, we are going through a period of regression rather than evolution. [addsig]

@switch I agree totally!

It seems that all companies are interested in doing is selling us their latest product, doesn't matter if it's actually better that the previous one or if it's made well, it the image that counts!

Everything seems to be a business trying to get us to part from our cash at the moment, and if you don't have this certain product, you're not worth knowing and worse than pond life!!

Its just ridiculous - take the t610 for example, did we really NEED a t630? Slightly better screen, er, that was it! But it was the cooler to have, so loads of people upgraded. Dedicated followers of fashion, or easily led "sheep" all too willing to part with their cash for no damn good reason? No wonder there are so many people in debt, with this "you must buy this cool sexy whatever NOW!"

Yup. Just like buying a new couch every year because it's the 'in' thing. Just like in my school days only levi's was THE brand of jeans, and priced accordingly. We humans have this need to fit in, and preferably out-do the rest. Whoever first came up with the idea of 'fashion' had an eerily accurate insight in the human mind.

You sound almost as old as me, Marga! I always wore Levi's in my younger days.

I didn't actually wear them back then..... they were far over my budget (which was 100 dutch guilders per month) and the first levi's I ever owned were purchased many years later Although I gotta say I found those incredibly comfi I myself am a sucker for GAP jeans

As for brands.......... perhaps they are the modern equivalent of past 'war colours' and they help us in a way identify which 'tribe' of modern man we belong to
