Samsung has distributed almost 14000 mobile telephones and it has specifically created an entire network for the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 in order to show how a mobile telephone can be certain times faster than... athletes. The Korean company which is also one of the official sponsors of the Olympic Games set up specifically for the Games a wireless network which is titled as WOW (Wireless Olympic Works). It is a celliform network which gives in specific users information of the results of the events, handings-over of medals, cancellations of events etc. Mobile telephones compatible with network WOW were given in members of the Olympic Family, certain journalists and certain athletes.

The particular telephones, as much as the network are specifically designed in order to give solutions in one of the most bigger problems of the Olympic Games, which is the locomotion from one part to another. Concentrations, traffic congestion but also unanticipated changes in the program, many times have resulted, athletes and spectators not to be on time where they should be. Also, the telephones can be connected in a service of messages which provides information on official statements, urgent notices and notices for changes in the program. Finally Samsung circulated in the market in limited number her special "golden" edition mobile as remembrance of the Olympic Games of Athens 2004.

Samsung has not given in the publicity details with regard to how many much the Olympic sponsoring cost, however it does not hide that it was an exceptionally succesful movement. From the Olympics of Sydney, that is to say before 4 years, the value of her commercial name, a comparison of the company Interbrand which results from the annual income concerning the commercial signal of company, has gone up for Samsung from 5.22 to 12.55 billions dollars! According to the company Strategy Analytics, from the sixth place that Samsung was that time worldwide and with percentage of 5% it has gone up today in the third place with a percentage of 14.47% aiming dynamically for the second place!
