If you belong to the network of South-African Vodacom you better be more careful with what you are talking about.

These news blew like a bomb in South Africa, after the revelation on the radio station Talk Radio 702 of Pratoria that was made by one young man with the name Glen, who claimed that anyone can hear any discussion in a radius of 15 kilometres, as long as you belong to Vodacom network! This is achieved by calling a number that regularly belongs in the customer care of the company and with no debit, while at the same time the subscribers have no clue that someone is listening to them like a big brother!

In the beginning the people in charge of the station didn't took his word seriously and they said to him that this is rather an "urban legend", until they also realised and accomplished to eavesdrop various accidental discussions, that began from discussions of a mother with her son and reached in telephone transactions between tradesmen of narcotics! The young man, that made the discovery kept in secret his identity, only mentioning his small name, as well as that the "hole" he discovered was found completely accidentally with the result that the past few weeks, his beloved hobby at the duration of his breaks in his school, is to listen phone conversations!

From Vodacom side, the representative Mr. Ivan Booth, denied this fact, saying that the young Glen, messed up his mind, drawing the conclusion that he took part in a chat service telephone that the company provides, where the user can take part in existing discussions of other individuals. But when the fact was also confirmed by Talk Radio 702, the company avoided to give more explanations, declaring simply that will investigate this subject. Same statements where made by the representative of Cell C, who uses the network of Vodacom, Happy Zondy, saying that "According to the technicians of the company, something like that (interception) is impossible to happen". Finally, no statements were made from MTN.
