Hi All,
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but Midi quality on the k700 is terrible. I had the T610 before and that handled midis a treat. The same tunes sound appalling when used on the k700. It seems a shame to have to use mp3 ringtones (I'd rather save the space for images/movies) but I guess I'm going to have to.

Hi Acrsexton,

I've noticed this aswell... Well more that they sound different, not that the quality is any worse. It seems the "instrument set" (if that's what u could call it) is different on the K700i than that on the T630/T610's - and yeah the midi songs don't sound as good because of this.

It's funny though, because the K700i supports up to 40 instruments/'sounds types' played at any one time, while the T630's only support 30. I'm assuming this means the K700i's have more available sound types, but because of this, the sound types vary more, and so sound different.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the 'instrument set' on the K700i?

Rony.

I found that some midi files sound better than my old T610 and some sound worse. Midi is one of those things that can vary so much depending on the hardware. As Rony pointed out, the supported instruments has a big part to play.

I notice it in particular with "bendy notes" that feature in many, well produced rock midis.

I dont think they sound any worse on the K700i. I just think they dont sound as good because the actual tune is often crowded out by other instrument noises that you couldnt hear on the T610. The K700i does have a different sounding instrument set too, which makes it sound different.

Ever tried to play your t610 midi tones on computer? They also sound bad, same as on k700, because that is real sound from a real speaker. T610 doesn't have real speaker, onli 32 midi speaker, that hides sounds not pleasent for human ears.

I've generally found they sound the same on the PC as they did on the T610. Ah well, MP3s from now on then.

if saving space is an issue, dont have full songs as mp3 ringtones - cut the song down to around 30 secs instead of 3 or 4 minutes - as most likely you wont hear the full song ever

Then the "improvement" SE made over the past T and Z and also maybe in P phone series was in vain?

@csi_bha - Yeah, I'd thought about that. It's just hassle though. To be honest, I'm not really too worried. There are more exciting things to be done with the K700 (BT Remote Control is ace!). It would just have saved some effort if I could have used my existing ringtones.

Oh well, I'll be so happy when someone manages to figure out how to get rid of this Vodafone carstration...

You have a fair point there rony. I should be grateful that I can play my own MP3s. I'm lucky, my 02 handset has just about no "customisations" at all.

The T610 uses a proper dynamic loudspeaker and the ML2870A PCM sound generator LSI to reproduce MIDI sequences ! This IC is quite sophisticated even today,as for the loudspeaker unit, apart from size it has the ability to play a wide range of audio signals.;-)

IT's as if most phones sound different... my T610 p900 and K700 will all play the same midi files using different instruments... Not all midi files tho, just most, sound different on each phone!
