It turns out, that NEC have developed a new mobile phone, which will only work with NEC batteries.
The reason given for developing this phone?.... "Safety". So that cheaper copies do not short out and explode in peoples faces!!
OK, firstly, how many of you out there know anyone who has been the victim of an evil exploding battery (not including those who throw then on Bonfires).
Secondly, how many of you are with me in thinking this move is purely to cut the success of counterfeit accessories and for NEC to make a few extra £$Y€ profit from both selling the accessories and the anti counterfeit technology? |

I think its a great move by NEC. Counterfeit batteries are a menace here in india and most people don't think its worth spending a few extra pennies on an original phone battery. But the problem is only for nokia users. I haven't seen an se counterfeit battery.

I've seen some non-genuine SE batteries, and use one or two - without any problems, but agreed there are a lot of pirates and shoddy dealers out there that sell really substandard batteries.
I've also recently bought some 'original' SE batteries, which actually look like very good copies, but haven't had any problems with them (yet!!!)

there will still be fakes don't worry. epson printers say they only accept epson cartridges but we all know they can be duplicated.

Even original battery would explode, but at least the manufacturer would recall them.
