hi
iv bee pondering over this problem for a while now, is it possible to use bluetooth to produce some sort of proximity system?

would i be able to use a pc to recognise a (permited) bluetooth hand set was in the desired range whcih would cause a voltage output at one of the serial/parallel port pins, i could then use this to trigger a relay which would release my front door latch?

i realsie there are lots of other issues wiht is this idea conserning security but in principle is it possible? and what software would i need to use?

thanks

BlueAlert
BlueAlert is the newest addition to the unique suite of TDK Bluetooth applications.
This application detects Bluetooth devices that are within range of your own Bluetooth device.
It will alert you when a new device comes into range, by notifying you via script and by the same token, will alert when a Bluetooth device leaves that range.

Download BlueAlert now!

Salling Clicker has been using Bluetooth proximity for a long time, to pause/unpause iTunes etc. when moving away from the computer, or to set your away status in messaging apps.

Clicker can be configured to do anything when moving in or out of the bluetooth range. Check out the scripts available for Perceptive Automation's Indigo home automation system.
