Mr. Vourloumis, chairman and directing adviser of the Organism of Telecommunications of Greece (OTE) astonished everybody at a recent event in the Athens Business Club 2004, regarding the sluggish situation that prevails in the organism pointing in his statements that their is a number of employees that are not needed! Concretely, Mr. Vourloumis declared, that half employees that are in OTE... are out numbered and the organism could comfortably function without them. Simultaneously he expressed his dissatisfaction to the fact, that even, with competition rising in all levels, OTE is the only company of telecommunications in Europe that instead of decreasing her functional expenses, actually increases the expences. Concretely he said: "A company that should fight in a exceptionally competitive environment, it is forced to do this with a double number of personnel from those really needed..." The income of the organism is also decreased also for two more reasons, according to Vourloumis, and this is because EETT provides full support in the competitors of OTE and also to the fact that OTE was also late considerably in promoting broadband connections.
Also Mr. Vourloumis blamed the current policy in which the organism functions, saying characteristically that only in papers OTE is a private company. He also mentioned that many members of the previous goverment who are involved in scandals of hiring their "own people", have forced OTE to "...keep employees that should never be in an organised company". Mr. Vourloumis at the end said, that things are going to get better since the new goverment which took over few months ago is going to make changes to the law system and will open new horizons to OTE.
