In a recent research from Bond University in Australia, SMS is the method to bring closer the deaf-mutes with people that do not have hearing problems. The assistant professor Mary Power, who is person in charge for the research, mentioned that with the help of mobile telephony,deaf-mutes have more opportunities to consolidate new relations with other persons.
Her research, that was recently published in the Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education shows that, having as a tool the mobile telephone, people with hearing problems have nothing to be jealous, since it is not required to have good hearing in order to send an SMS! Therefore, no one can be called "disabled". Naturally, the technology of written messages does not help only in the communication for the creation of relations. The written messages contribute generally in the smooth rehabilitation of persons with hearing problems in the society. "Henceforth deaf-mutes can buy tickets, they can vote in reality shows on TV by sending messages from their mobile telephone. Offering to them equal opportunities, these persons do not feel so much intensely that they live on fringe. Also, sending written messages, relations are strengthened with another person. It is an important help that strengthens their prospects in a lot of sectors of their life ", Power pointed and continued saying that, "with SMS, you can have or arrange a meeting, or even you can have an entire discussion. If you stand in some point in a club/meeting with deaf-mutes apart from their "language", you will see that they send between them SMS".
Important factor in this form of communication, it is the confrontation that exists from the companies of mobile telephony. In Australia, as in most European countries, the reception of messages from other network is free of charge. This is an important element that contributes in a more "wide" communication. In the United States, the reception of written messages its free of charge only if the message is send from the same network! In this case, it will be supposed to communicate only with subscribers of same network, differently the debits will be much bigger.
Sales of appliances of mobile telephony to people with hearing problems have been increased, according to Mary Power.
Of course, there are more ways of communication as e-mail but it is not guaranteed that an instant reply will be made from the other end.
