check their feedback very carefully, not only reading the positive and negatives but also what items they have previously sold. If the item now being sold is vastly different then be careful that the sellers account has not been taken over by someone else.

Ignore all requests from Indonesia or anyone wanting to buy it and have it shipped to another address

I rarely use reserves because it wastes peoples time bidding only to find they haven't met the reserve. Instead, I prefer to set the opening price to the minimum I will take. This was the first person to bid means the item will definitly sell and any other bidders before the auction closes are a bonus

always leave feedback

give honest descriptions including any marks or problems with what you are selling

display pictures of the actual items and not standard pictures from manufacturer sites etc

keep you buyer informed of when the item was posted and provide tracking numbers where appropriate

I personally use an email tracking system so I know when mail is read and also where it was read (within limits). This is just for my own peace of mind.

setup paypal as it is by far the easiest and most common way to pay for items although nochex and a few other online payment methods are ok too. Don't leave your buyer having to send a cheque through the post because it takes ages to receive and clear

as a buyer, be prompt in your payment

when selling mobile phones in my experience its best to not accept bids from ebayers with 2 or less feedback. Make a note in the auction for them to contact you directly and when they have paid you then you can close the auction. works every time for me.

I have 300+ all positive feedback so far and these are the types of things that make ebay good. On one hand you have to be wary and cautious but on the other you have to be friendly and speedy

One other tip with Paypal is not to pay any 'surcharges' that people try to put on the listing. Ebay have outlawed this practice since June, and there are still many people trying it on.

I never charged any buyers for using paypal, either before this ban or after!

And another tip - always look at how much a seller is charging for postage before placing a bid - I've seen people selling a 3310 and charging £10 for Recorded Delivery - when it in reality would only cost something like £1.50!

And NEVER respond to any emails supposedly from Ebay asking you to confirm your username and password or your account will be shut down or something - it will be from scammers. I got caught out by this once!

And if a seller says that the phone comes up with the message 'sim card registration failed', or 'invalid mobile', then that phone is most likely to have been blocked/blacklisted. Avoid it like the plague.

And Good luck!!
