Hey guys just saw this on another site and might come as a shock but then again not read for yourself....
Finally, a "working" S700 prototype . Okay, the firmware is in such an early stage of development that, when trying to reach menus or test things, it crashed LITERALLY 9 out of every 10 times. Even the housing of the prototypes is underdeveloped (no symbols in the keys, badly polished aluminium, no "Sony Ericsson", "1.3 Megapixel" and such text labels, and an odd lens decoration in yellow) comparing to the dummies, which show how the final product will look and feel like phyisically. BUT even so, it was a box of surprises. First of all: IT HAS RADIO FM BUILT-IN, just like the K700! Awesome. But from there comes another surprise: The interface is the same as K700 and Z1010. Even the service menu tells "Model: Z1010" So in the end, the S700 is no smartphone, but a mixture of the features of K700 (Radio FM, Flash light, aluminium housing) and Z1010 (Memory Stick Duo), with an extra of coolness, style, ease of use and of course, a really astonishing screen. Since the same interface is used by all three phones, you will find the same negative details (p.e. no customizable SMS tone) and the same new improvements (multi-field contacts, Speed-Dial, horizontal tabs in menus...)

what a minute, what?!?!? are you saying to me that all s40 or s60 phones are the same because they use the same interface aw cmon, read the m-r review and you will see that the two are not the same...
i'm suprised you didn't come up with a gem like k500 and s700 are the same it would be more logical considering k500 isn't umts...
[edit] or are you suprised by the fact it says z1010 on the screen if so, z1010 was the first with the new menus and all phones had a prototype version of the same menu so naturally it says z1010, and btw this is quite old.... they have already polished the firmware and if you have read the m-r review you would see that and not some cebit photos, k700 also had the z1010 and i would be suprised if k900 or f700 would have the k700 fw.... but that doesn't make it the same phone, that's just like saying that all computers are the same because they have windows

@mmsman Dude you kinda ranted on there, and confused the hell out of yourself. The way you carry on is like YOU designed the interface and FEEL A bit dissapointed that I believe the service menu looks like a Z1010.... |

this reminds me a little of the thread from a couple of days back
K700i and S700 same firmware?
I'd guess there will be some commonality to all these new phones

umm yeah... look i don't see the need for this thread, those pics were on esato for ages in the "s700 disscusion thread"
and i still don't understand your point it isn't a z1010, it doesn't have umts, it doesn't have two cameras, it doesn't have a 176*220 screen, it has java 3d, it doesn't have a vga cam the two are totally different but you had the need to creat a new thread which has pics of a prototype, no but really what have you expected?! we know it doesn't have symbian and we all know that this are the se new menus which arre used in ALL new models from k500 to z1010, christ really se was kind enough to build a working prototype for cebit so that we could see it in real life but nooo you are dissapointed because it had a prototype fw on! christ give me a break,
and i'm sorry if i'm a little "hard" on this thread but i didn't had a very good day..... |

all I can say is LOL. What a waste of space from both members.
I was born with three legs. In the middle of my third leg, there's a dial pad, 65k color screen, , and on the tip there's a icon. |

Boring, this I knew for very long. They (people as SE) just loaded the Z1010 software on there S700 prototype. This prototype is like many months old and de S700 software is still under development. Or would you like to have an S700 with 1 year old software?

I cant be bothered to read the whole thread, because its boring.
But like people have already mentioned. In order to demonstrate a working S700 as places like Cebit, SE simply put the Z1010 firmware into both the S700 and K700i, because at the time their own firmware wasnt up to scratch (probably kept crashing, and what not ).
