is there a way to increase the memory of my k700 or any other phone....as far as i know the memory is just some memory module on the circuit board so would it be possible to pick it off and put another one on or something? i'm sure there'd be some complications.....any info is appreciated

thanks

there would be hundreds of complications, like where do you place the extra chip for instance, as the space inside a phone is pretty tight? Where would you soldier it to on the circuit board, without runing the operation of it. By the time you have bought another phone and taken the chip out of it, it would be cheaper, much much easier and probably quicker to wait for the s700 and then buy that, plus you would have the better screen and better cam as well.

EDIT: Also all memory chips from different phones are going to be differenet sizes i guess, as they are made to work and fit specifically with the circuit board they belong to, so you couldn't just switch with another phone. Also what other phone has more than 41mb on board memory that you could swap the k700 memory with?
Also isn't part of the phones software stored on the memory chip, or is there a seperate chip for that?

well i was thinkin of buying a memory chip on its own without dismantling another phone hehe and i think the phones software is stored on a separate eeprom chip cos else the phone would be constantly flashing itself trying to add, remove n edit data lol

Did you think about the added heat generated from trying to process the extra memory? How about the battery consumption? Would you be in line to demand that SE make the phone last longer with the new memory added? Would you still claim that your phone was under warranty if you make the modifications yourself?

Things to think about. Adding memory is not one of them.

You would also habe to reprogram the firmware to tell the phone that it has more than 41MB as I seriously doubt that it auto detects how much memory it has like a PC does. Do you know anyone that can do that for you?

oh lots n lots of negative comments hehe......well if i managed to increase the memory i wouldnt be bothered about battery consumption or evne bother with the warranty but like i've already posted a thread about editing firmware....i just wanna know if its possible to get the assembly of the firmware.......i can edit it if i had that. I'm sure programming it to recognise additional memory addresses wont be much of a big deal.....it'll just be changing the range of hex memory addresses it can access which sounds a bit like baby work to me.

i was just wondering if theres any special type of SRAM module SE uses so could we all stop trying to make ourselfs feel better by writing silly "you will never be able to do it because i cant" comments and only contribute if u have a valid non-obvious comment.

cant you think of an external storage through the socket of data cable,i think you will have to do some more modifications for that, but it would be better as you dont have to do much in the internal pcb, whats your comment?

i've thought about some sorta external storage such as modification of a HPM-10 to use as a memory card reader or a bluetooth drive or anything silly like that. i dunno hehe so i thought i'd start thinking about internal storage...u can buy 128mb SRAM chips etc out there so wouldnt it be nice if u could put that in the phone....but does anyone know what type of chip a k700 has?

After reading this thread the only comment that springs to mind is
