Took my K700i in to a SE Service Centre (Brighton) this morning. I have the K700i from O2 on R2A041. After an hour they brought the phone down - put my SIM is and all the thing did was flash a white screen! - They tried another firmware upgrade - still the same. They called Sony Ericsson who have sent out a bulletin about this problem - seems to be a common issue?!

The centre downloaded some software patch – 2 hours!! - this still didn’t fix the problem. By three this afternoon I received my phone back with the original R2A041 – they said they cannot update it!

I guess I am lucky to get the phone back working – but still have many of the same issues that I have seen in these forums. Has anyone else experienced this? -

those people in Brighton are hopeless in my experience. I have been to them 4 times and never once had a successful visit. apart from being down the backstreet the guy there is a miserable guy.

I'll never go there again

Hi masseur! Yes, I saw you mention them in another post. they were always pretty good with the T68 updates - but miserable yes! Pretty scary that the firmware wouldn't hold. I guess I will have to go through the O2 online route and send the phone back to them - that will take weeks! nightmare

Where's the best place to get the firmware upgraded then? I'm on 02 as well. Mind you, I thought they can upgrade the firmware via a text message, or is that a different s/w upgrade?

Also, how can I find out what f/w my phone is on?

I will see what they say at o2 - I think that there must be some problem relating to the O2 start-up screens and the new firmware - i dont know how the O2 theme is coded to the phone. - either way - scary stuff - don't go there..yet, unless you really need to.

@mojo_jojo:

You can see which firmware version you are using by doing:
>*<<*<*11 where the > symbol means the joystick direction.

i dont think you can update f/w by text msg or anything as a firmware upgrade requires fully control of your phone and so needs to be installed from an external source???????

if that makes any sense????

I could be wrong, i am no expert!

I might try the Sony Centre in Crawley then - or maybe the O2 shop can do it?

Oops, the Sony Centre in Crawley is just a shop I think, not a service centre. The one in Brighton isn't:

Cellular & Audio Services
98-100 Reigate Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 5AG
T: 01273542777

by any chance???

mrmobile - where did you get yours done?

guys - I didn't say they were a bad centre but i just left a word of caution that the firmware upgrade on the particular O2 config in my K700i almost left me with a lump of plastic!! - Will wait for O2 online to get back to me - and will try again!

Hi

The same thing happened to me today when upgrading from R2E -> R2L. My K700i (R2A->R2E->R2L swedish) began blinking whenever it got access to the network.

Thw guy in the servicecenter took it back and sent it higher up the chain! 5-10 workingdays before I get it back.

Perhaps (Hopefully!) I get a new one!

This sucks but then again shit happens! Temporarily going back to my old Nokia 6610

I'm on O2 as well but got my mobile from mobileshop.com and when it starts up it comes up with the Sony Logo, not 02? Anyway looks like Brighton is the nearest Sony Service Centre to me and the place I have to go!

yeah the Sony shop in Crawley is just a shop (I live in Ifield on the edge of Crawley) and although I recall a thread a few months back that Sony shops were going to become service centres, last time I asked them they knew nothing about it

in addition - the "owner" of the Service Centre in Brighton stated that he wanted to get away from "Sony Ericsson" and concentrate on Nokia! Something to do with SE not paying for delivery of phones sent back for repair?!
