The obsession that has submerged Hong-Kong with the mobile telephones, appears that it has been also transported in younger ages, according to a research, since the small children that have in their possession mobile telephones and similar gadgets, they exceed any other age-related group! Concretely this annual research in telecommunications in Asia that was carried out by the company of researches TNS, it showed that between 12 countries, in Honk-Konk 29% of children between 6 and 15 years have in their possession a mobile telephone, while a percentage of 25% follows in Japan and Australia. In third place New Zealand and Singapore is found with a percentage of 24%.
The youngest user of mobile telephone in the Hong-Kong was hardly 6 years old! The former British colony possesses also another record, the one of the bigger rate of infiltration of mobile telephony, since 83% of 6,8 millions of people that constitutes the population of the country have in their possession a certain mobile telephone! Following, Australia with corresponding percentage 82% and Japan with percentage 80% according always with the research. The research was commented by the assistant director of TNS Stephen Yap saying: "The high degree of infiltration of mobile telephony is owed in the particularly low debits. Without doubt, Hong-Kong is from the most competitive markets in the world since 6 networks of mobile telephony exists in order to serve a population that does not exceed 7 millions while an enormous variety of appliances exists in the market". Japan for those who they dont know, has three networks of mobile telephony.
However in another sector the Hong-Kongk "touched" bottom in relation with the other countries of region. And this is not other than the written messages. Concretely 47% of holders of mobile telephone, are sending written messages. A resident of Hong-Kong sends on average "hardly" 23 written messages each month the moment that the Chinese sends 124, Singapore's 219 and in Phillipenes... 466!!! Hong-Kong delayed the service of short written messages and the world is not used to them.

My guess there is that if you split that up it would be:
Age 11 to 15 has 99%
Age 6(!) to 11 has 5%
A research of peoples mobile phone usage starting at the age level of 6 sounds a bit suspect to me.
That is way too early for kids to have a mobile phone and I think 99% of all parents out there agree with me.

I have a niece who's 8 and just knows how to maneouver a celfone faster than I do  ! The Nokia 6220 was given to her by her Mom 'bout 4 months ago  . . . The fone just works great with her, specially during emergency times while she's at school, like texting her Mom to pick her up when she's not feeling OK (sick) etc. The only problem that bothers me is when she sends us SMS infos  She got the use of the habit of typing words abbreviated which should not be, because it might just cause some problems with her spelling (words) skills  ! That's why I am encouraging here (on a daily basis) to practice sending sms in complete wording/phrases so as not to get her confused as well as to the 'real' and correct manner of spelling the words as it should be  ! |
