While most fears of electromagnetic radiation from cell phones causes "brain heating" or other neural damage have abated over the past year or so, I am continually confronted by people who say they can truly feel the negative effects of holding the phone to their ear - an effect that landlines, or even wireless (800mhz, 2.4 and 5.8 ghz) handsets don't produce for them.
I'm convinced that the cause of these symptoms comes down to one of two possibilities:
1) ergonomics. Cellphones just have bad ergonomics. What works in the pocket doesn't work in the hand or against the ear. They're flat, and push. And because you can't really hear as well, you push harder and feel more drained.
2) location. People are carrying on cell conversations in more stressful and distracting environments. It's hard to maintain proper phone conversational etiquette while you're fighting your way through sidewalk traffic, or trying not to be distracted by screaming children.
So that feeling of a faded brain or energy level - the diminished chi - may be real; but it's probably a function of something other than radio waves.
