I've been faced with an outrageous amount to pay on my phone bill and can't afford it.

What happens if I don't pay??

I know it will be disconnected but what about after that??? Collections? Bad credit??

I'd like to know what I will face. Can anyone please tell me!?!?!

Thanks!

usually the best way to deal with bills you cannot pay is to confront the company you owe the money to and make a payment arrangement. Usually credit laws provide for this sort of settlement rather than immediate legal action against you

have a chat with singular. they may suspend your service, or limit its use, until the account is settled

Yeah. If you don't pay, they'll suspend and ultimately cancel your service, send you to collections and have a negative impact on your credit. At that point, you won't be able to sign up for service with anyone.

They may also blacklist your phone for non-payment of bills I believe too!

I totally agree with @massuer here, you have to make a 're-construction' payment scheme with the Cingular Network mate I have a friend here who did not pay his obligations with a local Celfone Network, amounting to about US$ 800.00 At first he did not mind settling it, during it's course, the network is still sending him his monthly bill continuously for the past 6 months, though an interest is adding to that of his outstanding balance , after some period of time, a legal action letter was sent to his address (some sort of a subpoena ). He was given a certain period to respond to, failure to do so will result to his obligatory appearance in the court ! Same case with the use of a credit card mate with a considerable amount unpaid balance/bill ! Good Luck . . . If you really have no plans of settling your account with them, then better migrate to either Iraq or Afghanistan where there is no law for 'immigrant deportation' still being implemented, and their intrpol is in total in disarray right now ! Just kidding here mate, but honestly speaking - try to settle you account with Cingular mate !

Yes, not paying your bill has the benefit of leaving more money in your pocket in the short term.

One small problem is you may need credit in the future for a mortgage or car loan, if you have a history of non payment of previous bills, they may only offer you a higher interest rate which on a home loan could run into a small fortune over the years.

Trick is, only spend what you have, it takes self control but being in control makes you a stronger person, in the meantime here is a link to a site where they will pay off peoples mobile bills if they can't afford them, (only up to £1000 per bill) use it respectfully & be polite, its a very handy service.

They don't blacklist phones here, they just disable the SIM card.

Thanks guys!! Yes, I needed a thinker on this one. Truth is I have excellent credit so I don't want to screw anything up. I talked to them yesterday and, sure, no problem to set up a payment plan.

@kimcheeboi - The 'title/heading' will be so different then Say, 'The Results That I Got When I Paid My Debt With The Cingular Network' or for the negative result, 'My Life here at Afgahinistan/Iraq After Not Deciding To Pay My Bills With Cingular Network' !

If I were you, I'll first talk to the company and see if they can reduce the bill or you can pay your bill in installments using credit cards
