Hi! I know there have been various threads about these telecom companies here in the Philippines but I would like to find out what your comments are on the pros and cons of the prepaid accounts of each and if your happy with what you are using now.

Im currently using a prepaid account from Globe but am seriously thinking about going back to Smart.

Globe prepaid:
PROS:
large network coverage
easy to call customer service
call divert available

CONS:
almost all sites are blocked except their own and a few others
free gprs only on their website
can't access mail servers so you can't use you phone's email client

Smart prepaid:
PROS:
largest network coverage
hard not to get a good signal
wap sites are not blocked except for a very few
can access mail servers so you can use your phone's email client

CONS:
P0.25 per kb charge whether downloading or just browsing
no call divert feature for prepaid
forget it when calling customer service

SUN prepaid:
PROS:
free GPRS (maybe not for long)
all sites open

CONS:
hard to get a good signal even here in metro manila
dropped calls when travelling inside a vehicle due to signal loss
a bit harder to buy prepaid cards not like globe and smart

Please put your comments on these. Thanks guys in advance!

Just would like to add:

Globe - when you add another load just before the last load expires, the remainder of the first load is added to the last load. It will also carry-over to the expiration date of the last load.

Smart & Sun - the remainder of your load will disappear after the expiration date. This is true even if you manage to add another load just before the first load expires. No carry-over.
INTEGRITY

Without it...
Everything else is irrelevant.

If you want to call and text use Globe.

I only use my smart sim when I want to surf wap site that are blocked by Globe (which is not very often). I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that Globe will unblock all sites soon.

Smart customer service sucks, btw. I had to call a gazillion times (a little exaggerated) before I could to talk a CSR and have the GRPS settings up and running.

have tried globe and sun prepaid (sorry smart)

i tink value for money would go to sun cell... convert a load, pioneered lower rates, free gprs? (sun customer service said gprs is still in test mode-kol 200), cheaper IDD kol (30 cents) and started the 50 bucks call card among others

but i wld still go for globe because of two reason.... BETTER NETWORK COVERAGE!!! coz u wont be able to use ur mobile if theres no or weak signal.... right? and lastly i usuali exchange INTERNATIONAL SMS with my relatives in d states so i use globe coz they get my message and i cld get theyr reply... hv tried sun pero mukhang di nakakaabot sa mga relatives ko sa states uon msgs ko e

if sun fixes their network coverage and gets connected internationally... it would be SUN CELL pero as of now... il still go for the one who started it GLOBE!!!

lastly
The answers we find are never what we have in mind so we make it up as we go along......

@notiboy00 I totally agree with you regarding Sun. For i-text, calls cost only Php5.50/min Sun-Sun and to other network Php6.50; text to Sun-Sun .50cents and if you convert-a-load only .67cents to other network. I can send international text abroad (they receive it). The FREE WAP browsing is their edge at the moment. The only disadvantage I see with Suncellular is the network coverage. FYI: they already put a cellsite here in Quezon Prov. For Globe and Smart their only advantage is their wide coverage. Calls and texts are more expensive and WAP browsing is not free.

Well, sun is new so they have to give something to compensate for their notoriously weak signal, I think it's because they still have very few cell sites. I've been using my post-paid globe account for about 7 years now and I don't have problems with it. I'm at the office most of the time with 24 hour internet access via DSL, so being unable to access a lot of WAP or HTTP sites or email accounts on my phone doesn't bother me very much. It would be great though If I could specially when I'm on vacation or something. I'm sure Globe will resolve this soon, they always do, they just always take time to make sure they provide quality service (IMHO).

I am on globe. it has good voice quality and a bit more friendly csr's unlike that of smart. sun also have friendly csr's.

I was with smart before but i really hate their csr's, they sound anoyed with you everytime you call( not all okay, but majority).

as for the sun, well, lets give it a bit more time.

but to me, the best network there was was here was ISLACOM!
-very good sound quality.
-has full dtx.
-fast call connectivity.
-delivery of sms report.
-call barring.
-call divert.

Unfortunately though, some good things never last.

I am hooked with Globe prepaid sim for almost 4 years back then! Last July 2004 I went back to SMART, cause I applied for a contract when they had the celfone madness craze promo barely 2 months ago - Addict Mobile! For me, almost both SMART and Globe works just the same, though I still had my old Globe prepaid sim in my back-up fone, just in case my SMART sim goes berserk! Two sims are better than one! That is, if you have 2 fones as well !

@ lethal_cassanova

agree!! hehe. i was supposed to terminate my contract with sun in few months, but because of their unlimited calls, i'll stick to them, anyway, they are now trying to be customer friendly, and, they've learned how to value their loyal subscribers.

soon, signal will not be an issue anymore.

...
