T230 - connection to an Apple G3 Pismo Powerbook |

Hi all - UK (Sussex) reader.
First post!
I have a T230 and I want to connect to an Apple G3 PowerBook PISMO, which uses Mac OS X 10.3.4. Is this at all possible? (The PISMO has an IR port). Is there a cable that will connect the two? All I can find is a DCU-11 which appears to be for MS Windows only
Grateful for ANY guidance

No, you won't be able to use that USB data cable as SonyEricsson do not provide Mac drivers.
However, you can use the DRS-11 RS-232 data cable with "GSM Remote" and a Keyspan USB to RS-232 adapter.
You can find much cheaper third party data cables on eBay. I bought one for about £5 inc. P+P |

Hi JulesG3 - thanks for the guidance. Let me get this right:
I get an RS232 cable for the T230 and then connect it to the Keyspan USB to RS-232 adapter - which plugs into the USB port on the Pismo? Are any drivers involved in the setup - sorry to be a bit dim, hope you can advise again
Cheers

Yep, you got it. The only drivers you need come with the Keyspan adapter.
They're available here too, along with a manual.
The Keyspan adapter basically adds a PC-style RS-232 port to your Mac, then you can plug in the RS-232 data cable. In whichever software you use to transfer files to the phone (I recommend GSM Remote) you just choose the new RS-232 port from a pop-up menu.
Unfortunately you have to do it this way because SonyEricsson do not provide USB drivers for the Mac so you can't use the USB data cable.
I have used this set-up to read/edit the mobile and SIM phone book, and to transfer ringtones and themes.

Hi again JoolsG3
Thanks for explaining it all! Have you tried iSync with this arrangement? I will search eBay for a likely source, or if not, get one from the site

I'm pretty sure iSync doesn't work with this set-up. I think it expects a Bluetooth connection not cable.
Here's a link to an auction by the person on eBay I bought my cable from. I can recommend him.

That's the exact cable I bought... |

I'm having difficulty finding a supplier for the Keyspan USB PDA Adapter (Part USA-19Q) though. There is a faster one (High Speed USB Serial Adapter Part USA-19HS) which should also work but its pretty expensive. |

Hi Jools
Trawled around and couldn't find anything cheaper than about 50 quid - which is about the price I paid for the T230! Will checkout eBay.

For a MAC driver for your cable, check out this site
http://theapotek.com/teknotes/archives/000014.html
You are going to install a driver for the Prolific PL-2303 which is the main component of the DCU cable, or any 3rd party USB data cable.
In fact that keyspan adapter contains the same PL-2303 chip, as there is only 1 commercially available USB-Serial(RS232) chip.
You can also try the BAFO BF-800 USB1.1-Serial Adapter. It comes with MAC OS 10.1.X and 10.2.X drivers. http://www.bafo.com.tw/
It sells for around USD15. At least for Windows, the drivers of all these different brands are interchangeable.
