i bought my t68 in the US and im using it here in the philippines. the software version of my phone is R1b and i want to have it upgraded to the latest version. from what i understand, upgrades are free since it is covered by the phone's warranty (1 yr). when i went to an authorized ericsson dealer/service center (Semicon Philippines), they said that upgrades are only free when you buy the phone from them. i asked how come, isnt the warranty supposed to be international in scope? unfortunately, the only reply i got was "you should have bought the phone from us..." Im not sure if i have the right to complain, but isnt it their commitment not to mention responsibility to give us the best product possible and that free upgrades (even just for a year) serves this purpose? i paid a lot of money just to have this phone, so i think thats not asking to much!

The SW upgrades are free of charge from Ericsson, that is for sure. If the dealer doubts that, make him contact the Sony Ericsson support and they will educate him.
In the 1 year warranty period you _have the right_ to get service repairs and/or SW upgrades from any service point or other serviceplaces. As long as the country you are in sell the exact same ohone model that you have.

TO WATDHEK,

I am likewise from the pinas, if semicon won't consider you're international warranty you can go to smartnet, phils. Its service center is located at the back of shangrila edsa, ortigas center. 5th floor san miguel building. you won't miss it since it is just at the back of the hotel. But better yet call them first, i forgot their number but look it up at the directory. If they don't still accept you're warranty, there is an ericsson building there in ortigas and file a complaint there coz it's you're right to have that phone fix or upgraded. The ericcson buiding is located at the first junction after you turn right from edsa going to cubao.

hope this help.

I suggest you go straight to Ericsson Philippines at:

7/F Octagon Building
San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Complex
Pasig City, Philippines
Telephone: (632) 637 1600
Telefax: (632) 637 6160

They will definitely do it for free.

well thats the reason why i didnt buy the phone from them in the first place.i already had a bad experience with their rude salesppl in the past. i guess the only reason why i went there to have my phone upgraded is its accessibility to my place. rest assured their "friendly" staff and "assistance" will not go unnoticed!

To all Pinoy T68 owners who bought their units abroad:
I had a problem with mine, the opposite party complains of noise whenever I'm using the phone outdoor. Last week of Dec, 2001, I called up Erix Phils. but they told me to contact Smartnet or Semicon. Smartnet told me they don't have the capability yet to repair the phone and Semicon told me they can but with a fee of Php1650. First week of Jan, 2002, upgrade for R1C became available in many parts of the world. Called up same people: Smartnet- don't have software yet, Semicon- have software but with same fee, Erix Phils.- still testing software & will be out last week Jan. but will have to go to the 2 earlier mentioned.

I just forgot to ask Smartnet if they charge fees for under warranty repair & upgrade of foreign acquired phones. But my previous experience for T28 (from Indonesia) and Mot 6188 (from Singapore), they did not charge me a penny and didn't bother to ask for the proof of purchase. If you will contact Smartnet, just look for Darius- he's one courteous guy there.

As for Semicon, they want to charge the same Php1650 for replacing the sliding cover of my 8850 - labor only. I think they should rename their shop as 1650.
