Who pays it? I refuse 2pay it an if they did catch me I would fight em in court, ppl should stand up 2 BBC why pay a licence 2 the BBC 2 watch everyother channel? What if u have sky? BBC is anoutdated system, its corrupt an daft. Other channels r paid by advertisements, we have 2 pay 4 the BBC even if u never want to watch it, this system has to change. |

It pisses me off too & I sent a letter to them a couple of years ago saying pretty much what you said, they did reply but with nothing of use. Basically just said u have to pay but didn't reason why.
I suggested it is just ANOTHER way the British public is ripped of & asked if any other countries had it but they didn't say.
So do any other countries have to buy a TV Liscence?

Yes they do, quite a few other countries have them however they're about a quarter of the price we pay in the UK.
I pay mine every October. The price always goes up every year now by about £5. I think this year it is £121 for a colour licence.
I also have FREEVIEW which i dont count as FREE if you still have to pay a TV licence.

Theres a simple way round it...web tv...u dont have to pay a licence then...but its hard to find the mainstream tv channels being broadcast on the net (not telling u where as its a bit illegal)

I couldn't agree more with you titus, If I am not watching BBC (Using sky) why I should I pay for a service I am not using. Again from a legal point of view I will say it takes away my right of choice but again since here in UK we don't have a written constitution with declared rights I don't think I could challenge it in the court unless there are precedents (rulings by courts in similiar cases)

here in Sweden we pay 1872SEK/year (~€200/year) for the TV/radio-license... don't care much about it really since it isn't really that expensive... |

Wow I had no idea that in other countries you had to pay for television. Here in the states you just plug the tv or radio in, raise the antennae and off you go in to mind numbing entertainment. you really are getting a raw deal. |

NO far from it friscosjoke, I personally think we get a very good deal. Like you say your self 'mind numbing entertainment’ for free in the US as opposed to high quality TV, Radio, Internet & other public services from the BBC. I can understand some people’s frustration like titus & kinda admire their attitude. However I really can’t believe that no one in the UK has ever used the BBC (i.e. BBC education service) at least once in their lives, come on!!
Even if people in Europe & elsewhere don’t directly use their Publicly funded Broadcasters, organisation like BBC, SVT,SR, NRK, RAI etc etc are hugely important to the cultural fabric of their nations (& beyond) as a whole.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Did you see what was on the BBC1 this morning ?
Constant repeats of DIY programs, or how to sell your house. I can remember sitting through some of those programs twice already when ive just got out of bed and cannot be bothered to walk over to pick up the remote.
I wouldnt say the BBC generates higher quality programmes than other channels such as ITV. In fact, i find myself watching less and less BBC channels each year. Im not a big telly addict, but i often find watching channels like ITV, Ch4 and crap like Bid-up.tv far more interesting than what the BBC has to offer.
The BBC should scrap the licence and start funding through commercial breaks.

commercial breaks are a serious pain in the a** as well though, expecially when you're watching a movie and it's at the height of suspense, you have the sound on bit louder and you're all into ity.... and then...... BANG there's the commercial break. For some reason the volume of the commercials is much louder than that of the movie, giving you a scare and deafness all at the same time.
Not to mention to complete moronic level of most commercials and the fact that they take 15 mins at a time and start about 5 mins after your show/movie has started.
I'd gladly trade them in altogether
