HBM-30 MP3 Battery Problem |

Okay, I just got the MP3 player yesterday. I love the darn little thing. I downloaded tons of music onto the Memory Stick Duo, and have been (trying) to listen to tunes. However, the battery is frustrating and worrying me.
I got the MP3 player from a guy on here in fact. He was getting a better MP3 player. He sent it to me, and stuck in a brand new 4 pack of Panasonic AAA batteries.
Now, I have absolutely no AAA batteries in my house except for dead ones, and the only ones with power were the ones he sent me.
I put the battery into the MP3 player and started listening to my tunes that I had put onto the Memory Stick Duo. However, after about 15-25 minutes, it went dead. I had paired the HBM-30 with my phone, but I know that Bluetooth doesn't kill batteries that fast.
When I put the brand new battery into the MP3 player, it only showed at two bars of power. However, when the player went dead, it still only showed at two bars of power.
That's the main thing that is bugging me. I read the manual, and it says that when there is very little power in the battery, it will show the battery symbol, but empty.
I can deal with the fact that the batteries maybe was in a box for about three days, in a hot environment, and this zapped most of their juice. I can deal with that.
However, what I can't deal with, is that I never get to see the battery symbol with no bars in it. I only get to see the battery with two bars. Last night, after this happened, I thought for some reason that it might be the Bluetooth sucking some power. So I went into pairing mode and deleted the pairing that I had done with my phone. However, that didn't do it, so I decided to re-pair it with my phone. The odd thing is that when I was in pairing mode, it sat there for a while, and didn't turn itself off.
I paired the phone and the player. (I had the Memory Stick Duo out at the time) It sat like that for about a minute, and it didn't turn itself off. However, when I popped the Memory Stick Duo in, it displayed "Read MP3", then turned itself off. Does it really take that much power to read the Stick Duo? My CD player functions on more power than that, and can utilize two almost dead AA batteries, and that takes more power, due to having to spin the CD.
Now, please don't tell me to go to the store and buy some batteries. I can't right now, and I don't have the money to. What I'm wondering is, how long do you guys usually get out of your MP3 player? On average, how long can you listen to your music, and how long can you use it as a headset? Any input (except advising me to get new batteries) would be much appreciated.
By the way, when I get new batteries and test it again, I will repost here. Thanks alot.
Ethan

Hello,
I solved (for my private use) the poor battery life time with my hbm30. In fact with MP3 files (in the \MP3 folder of the MS Duo) I listened to about 1,5-2 hours of music.
I read somewhere that the battery life could be improved using the sony format ie Atrac3. The problem is that you need to use the provided cable to transfer into Atrac3 and it takes a long time.
For the moment no good codec are available to transfer wave and MP3 into Atrac3 except the one provided with the sony software (sonicstage). But in this case you can only transfer mp3 and waves to a cd !!!
So I bought a specific sony MS reader/writer (MSAC-US30 around 50€). It is a Magicgate compliant and is recongized by sonicstage. So you just have to transfer wave and mp3 to MS Duo Magicgate with the MSAC-US30 and put the MS duo in your HBM30. All is recongnized and I go for more than 10 hours of music with the same battery !!!!
My HBM come into a new life !!!
Let me know if there is any problem

Take a look at my complete guide. http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=64355
If you are using MP3's to get the best out of your player you may have to reconvert all your tunes to one standard bitrate,(128 or 160, stereo (joint-stereo is not supported) and no VBR) this will increase your battery life. | |
