For wappers,
Extreme Bluetooth
File transfers completed over a distance of 1 kilometer
Using a high-gain antenna connected to a Class 1 Bluetooth adapter kit from Bluedriving.com, three men set out to see if they could connect to a Class 3 cell phone and attempt to transfer a file over the air at an extreme range of 1 kilometer or about about 3,300 feet. The test was conducted placing a laptop at the highest accessible point in the region and a cellphone located within visual line of sight. They were able to copy three files from a Sony-Ericsson T610 during the test at the targeted range of 1 kilometer, when a bluetooth cell phone device was not thought to have enough power to travel distances greater than a few dozen feet.
If nobody wants it.. put it on eBay. |

How the hell did they manage that!!
Wouldn't the signal emitted from the T610 need to travel the whole 1km?!!!
So it works if the receiver is sensitive enough?

A parabolic antenna or uhf yagi array antenna will have been used. And any antenna apart from a standard dipole has gain, hence she reason the rf has travelled much further. And that comes from an electronic engineers horses mouth. You should educate yourselves, electronic education is very desirable nowadays!

Thanks for the info
but remember other things are also desirable these days like Forensic Science which I happen to find a touch more interesting than electronics.
Just because everyone doesn't read up on antennae doesn't make them uneducated mate.

the technology to boost bluetooth up to 1km dates back along time. at cebit 2001 (or 2002) a swedish company demonstrated the blue2 pc adapter that could also go up to 1km.
but i'm all for new bluetooth applications and possebilities
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |
