Heres a recent email sent to SE regarding this problem. I hope it makes sense:
Dear Sony Ericsson
I have recently received a K700i, to replace my T610. The phone is an Orange Branded phone, however this is not what I'm contacting you about.
I use my phone also as a Fax machine, so I can send a and received faxes directly on my PC at home (via serial cable) (fax talk software)
However, I now seem to have found a major fault / defect / problem in the phone.
Now when someone sends me a fax to my number, they get an error message "This line doesn't support this service" Tried again and get the same message. If I turn the phone off or place the sim card in my T610, the service works and I can receive faxes.
So I thought it must be a fault with Orange, I have recently been speak to their Technical support that have drawn blanks at the moment but are looking into the matter for me.
I have since done further testing my self and found the handset to be faulty or not responding correctly, but not just my handset!
When I connect the Phone to my PC, I have conducted Modem Diags to my phone.
The phone is saying that it doesn't have class 1 or class 2 support in the modem and is unable to support fax??
I connect my T610 and this comes back as supports Class 1 and Class 2 and has a transfer rate of 4800bps
So is the phone at fault. Well yes, But I have since tried another Orange K700i which has the same fault, and a Generic K700i that is not sim locked and has only your firmware on but this also has the same fault!!
I have come to the conclusion that you have either sent a faulty batch of phone. A firmware problem or you have just not tested the feature your self.
I have Firmware R2C (Orange)
And have tested another phone with (R2C) Orange and (R2A) Generic K700i.
I would like the matter resolved urgently as at present I have a phone that has a modem that can't be used. This is not a Network fault or a fault with the Network firmware, so please don't refer me back to them.
I have tried to update my phone to the latest firmware but no Se centres have auth from you yet where I live in the uk, also I'm not sure if this is a firmware related issue.
I await your reply
so people any ideas?? |

An internet shop I looked at, listed the K700i as not FAX capable.
If I issue the modem command to ask for FAX support, the phone reports that it is not FAX capable.
So the current firmware does not support FAX. I have been unable to find out if the phone will stay this way forever.
Your question to SE is the right way to find out.
