It's probably just to save some diskspace and some network bandwidth.

I think it would clutter the forum up totally.
I like this way better than some other forums where everybody try to out do the others in a "war of colours".

i don't like forums with pics in sigs, because like tranqil says it becomes cluttered, and it increases loading times

yeah, it gets horrifically annoying, when everyone has custom pictures in their sigs!
But if you look at mince-inside's posts he usually always just adds his picture anyway!

It wouldn't affect esato's bandwidth or webspace at all, cos the images would have to be hosted elsewhere

But you get these great big 2MP pics of people cars, and it makes it look bad. With the starndard avitars, it makes this forum look tidy I think! |

it would actually be quite easy to limit the size of each image for sigs (both in pixels and in kb) so it is not ALWAYS very horribly annoying and doesn't need to be in bright flashy colours at all.
In fact.... Custom avatars and sigs CAN be classy and CAN look good.... don't diss it just because some abuse the privilege elsewhere
Example (used elsewhere):
It's not wildly intrusive imho and does not clutter much at all
It's just something that doesn't seem to fit esato, that's all

If others could keep it as simple, yet very stylish, as that I guess I could live with it. The problem is that it would never be the case. I've visited forums that seened very interesting, opened a topic and gotten blinded by signarure pics in all the colours of the rainbow. After having looked for a bit of text between all the pics I've left the site without more reason than thinking "What a mess!" No, as Vlammetje said; It doesn't suit Esato.

i agree i hate these huge picture signatures...
there's always this one person who has like a 5mp camera and can never be bothered to crop the pics
and they post a sig of the pimple on their nose or something equally useless
