Yahoo has launched a service allowing users to upload photos to their Yahoo Photo online accounts directly from their camera phones. The Mobile Photos Upload service is an addition to the existing Yahoo photo service, which allows users to share digital albums online.

Yahoo has introduced a service allowing users to upload photos to their Yahoo Photo online accounts directly from their cell phones .
The Mobile Photos Upload service is an addition to the existing Yahoo photo service, which allows users to store digital albums online and share them with friends and family.

The new service is available to camera phone users who are customers of Sprint Communications , AT&T Wireless, T-Mobile USA , Cingular Wireless and Verizon Wireless.

Register Phone

To use the service, customers have to register the make and model of their phone, as well as their wireless service provider, with the online service. They are then given an e-mail address to use when sending photos to their online account.

Additionally, customers of AT&T Wireless and Sprint PCS networks can download their stored photos onto their cell phones. The Java version of the service also lets consumers save images locally on their phones and create a personalized album and slideshow that can be accessed without connecting to the Internet. The Yahoo! Mobile Photos service is available from AT&T Wireless for US$2.99 a month, plus standard usage fees.

Interoperability Issues

The combination of the photo upload and download service, in effect, allows users of different wireless networks to send photos to each other. This facility was previously not possible, because, unlike cell phone text messaging, there are interoperability issues between different networks.

Yahoo is not setting a limit on the number of photos uploaded and is not charging extra for the service.
