Maybe i never noticed but is it me, or if i click the "latest posts" link the "Ads by Google" box is replaced by a "Latest News" and "Hotest News" box...

Yep. But i think they're still there just because the site is still in an updating process.
Maybe laffen saw that he was getting more money from the ringtones than from Google.

no, the things you are seeing now I have been seeing for quite a while. This is nothing new.
Indeed I am getting google ads beside this reply box as aI type.
I'd say its setup to be random by the looks of it
