I've read a lot of posts about different software versions for the T39, but I've never seem a clear list of what gets fixed in what new software version. My phone has R2K. I understand the latest is R3M. Is there any compelling reason for me to send it in for an upgrade? What major fixes have been made?

Thanks!

usually it's up to you, if you're phone hangs like my T39 does especially when I'm using GPRS then I upgraded from R2M to R3A. and now its working better, While surfing, I can rcvd sms without the hassle of hanging. But if this is not your problem then it is wise to stick to your old version.

hope this help

interesting. I guess If I experience no problems, I should not worry about it. My other thought is to wait as long as possible, and get as close to the end of my warranty period, before I do it.

Out of curiosity, where did you get yours upgraded, and how much of a hassle was it?

Thanks!

you can have it upgraded to any ericsson service points. Here in my country ( Philippines ) its SEMICON. nO HASSLE WHATSOEVER. you'll just present your official receipt and the upgrading itself last for 20-30 mins. AND IT'S FREE!

The actual SW is free from Ericsson. It's the dealers that charge money after the warranty period.
For scandinavian users, you can go to http://www.telesupport.se and look under švrigt-->programversion
There you'll find a list over the newest SW for all Ericsson phones.
The newest SW for T39m is now R3A.
It seems 2 have a fix for the problem in Norway that consists of sending/receiving e-mail fron Telenor Online servers.
It is a good SW.

yes it will be a little bit faster typing those sms and sending it or editing it. Mainly the new sw will prevent your phone from hanging when you rcvd an sms while on GPRS. or basically freezing or hanging problems.

Thanks everyone for the great info. Now my question is, for those of us in the US, how complicated is it to get upgraded? I know it will need to get sent in, but how long does it take? If anyone in the US has gotten an upgrade, I'd love to hear your experience.

Thanks!
