I bought a USB Data Cable for my SE T610. I put the cd that came with it into my drive. I am using XP. I open it up and go into the usb driver folder. When I try to install the driver which is PL-2303, I get driver install failed. I have tried installing it with the usb cable connected to the PC and without it connected. I just cannot seem to install it. Has anyone else had problems?

In general, for USB devices, it's recommended to install drivers BEFORE connecting the device to the pc, unless recommended otherwise in the manual.

What you could try is to delete the hardware you tried to install, using the control panel. Then insert the cd, install the drivers and hope for it to go well. The last step should be connectin the device.

Another thing you could try is to get the latest drivers from the internet! When I buy a new device, I hardly ever use the drivers on the cd. First I go look for an updated version of the drivers!

works fine for me. To completely remove the driver, search in the directory \WinNT\inf or something like that, search for the .inf file with PL2303 INSIDE the file using Windows' search feature , and delete the .inf file. Then try installing it again. In fact I never use the "install" program of any USB devices. I just let Windows detect, when it asks for the driver, I point it to the directory where I have copied the .inf and related files like xxxx.sys , etc.

What USB data cable are we talking about? Is it the SE DCU-11 USB cable? If so, and if I remember the procedure correctly, I did the following:

- Inserted the CD (Sony Ericsson - Installation software - USB Cable DCU-11)
- Selected the language to use (English)
- Pressed "OK"
- Pressed "Install USB Drivers" under "Software installation"
- Ejected the CD (Sony Ericsson - Installation software - USB Cable DCU-11)
- Connected the USB cable (SE DCU-11)
- Connected the phone (SE T610)

Good luck!
