Replace that ugly My Bluetooth Places logo |

I've recently acquired a K700i, and bought a Belkin bluetooth dongle to go with it. I haven't played with it much so far but one thing that struck me straight away was the horrible Belkin logo used in the My Bluetooth Places window (see attachments for example).
Luckily it's easy to fix - you can replace the logo file (C:Program FilesBelkinBluetooth Softwarebinbelkin.bmp) with your own image (mine is here).
The size I used looks perfect at 1280x1024 with the window maximized, and a little jaggy at other resolutions/window sizes, but nowhere near as bad as the Belkin one. If you don't want any logo at all, simply delete belkin.bmp.
I'd imagine this trick will work for other vendors using WIDCOMM drivers, although the logo will have a different name and be in a different location.
Hope that helps! Off to play with FMA now...
Chris

Don't have that logo either but I do have a 'My Bluetooth Places' icon on my desktop that I can't get rid of
Any help?
(Where's that tick box to get a e-mail notification when someone replies to this post?) |

erm... that doesn't work - do you actually have the bluetooth logo on your screen - try it? |

Try TweakUI - that'll let you hide My Bluetooth Places from both the Desktop and My Computer if you so wish.
You're right, the icon can't be changed as it's not a standard shortcut. You could create a shortcut to the original My Bluetooth Places, change the icon, then hide the original one, but it sounds to me that you want to remove it from your desktop completely.
As an aside, I've been playing with both Widcomm and Microsoft Bluetooth software - they both do the job but neither are perfect. I like the MS software better, but it doesn't seem to be possible to send multiple files at once. I'm sure we'll see more discussion on this when MS finally push XP SP2 out the door |

To get rid of your My Bluetooth Places Icon. Open the registry editor (Click Start then run and type regedit in the box)and go to this key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel
Locate this entry in the box on the right. If this entry does not exist create a new DWORDValue here with this name.
{6AF09EC9-B429-11D4-A1FB-0090960218CB}
right click it and select modify. Change the value data from a 0 to a 1.
Close the registry editor then select anywhere on your desktop and press F5.
